Welcome to Games Workshop’s 2009 CitadelMiniatures Bitz CatalogueFor years Citadel has offered converters and modellers a

special parts service enabling customers to purchasecomponent metal pieces for their own modelling projects.On some distant occasion now long-forgotten theseindividual metal pieces were dubbed ‘Bitz’ – and Bitz theyhave stubbornly remained ever since – so that now whenwe talk about components we invariably say ‘Bitz’ and trustthat everyone understands what we mean! This time-hallowed tradition continues with this, our latest ‘Bitz Catalogue’.

Our Bitz offer has evolved over the years and nowadays arange of components is offered in convenient pre-packagedselections as part of the Games Workshop Direct service.Plastic pieces now form an important part of the Bitzcollection as Citadel’s range of plastic models continues toexpand. Many pieces previously available only as metal arenow offered in plastic. Our aim is to provide as wide arange of metal and plastic Bitz as possible, and our intentionis to expand the range this year and to continue to do so forthe foreseeable future.

Some of our Bitz are duplicates of individual components ofmodels available in our main ranges, but this is far frombeing universally the case. Many of our Bitz designs areunique pieces created specifically for converting – and assuch they are not available elsewhere. New designs areoften dreamt up by our sculptors or they are based on thesuggestions of enthusiastic converters and modellers. Ideasfor new Bitz packs are always welcome – be they alternativehead types for Imperial Guard, weapon and equipmentsprues, or decorative pieces of any kind… all suggestionswill be keenly considered.

Customers are asked to bear in mind that all of our Bitz areintended for use by competent converters and a fair degreeof modelling skill is assumed. Some reworking, cutting andremodelling will be required when fitting pieces together,whilst larger metal pieces may require pinning or supportingfor strength. Obviously, there are some pieces that aredesigned to be compatible with other standard parts, such asour Space Marine shoulder-pad sets, but it is wise to checkall pieces before assembly and to always assume that somework will be necessary to achieve a satisfactory fit.

Bitz can be anything – or even part of a thing – a fact whichpresented us with a bit of a headache when it came toorganising our Bitz Catalogue. In the end we decided todivide the contents into separate sections for Warhammerand Warhammer 40,000, and ordered each part along thefollowing lines. Converters’ pieces have been included first –for example sets of weapons and shoulder pads for SpaceMarines – and we have kept similarly themed piecestogether where possible – for example all Imperial Guardpieces. These are followed by mounts and individual smallcreatures – for example Rhinox and various types of hounds.Finally, we have grouped all the scenic accessory andoddments together – for example Glyph plates and furniture.This seemed the most accessible and practical way ofpresenting the Bitz.

Work continues on preparing new Bitz sets at the time ofwriting, and for this reason it is impossible for a cataloguelike this to be 100% up to date all the time. Each product in the 2009 Bitz Catalogue is identified by a title (in bold) and an 11-digit code. Please quote these whenordering. Below are some examples from the Warhammer section.

About the ModelsMost of the bitz in this catalogue are shownunpainted. All bitz are supplied unpainted. Allminiatures are shown at ACTUAL SIZE, unlessotherwise noted. All models that require a base aresupplied with the correct plastic Citadel miniatureslottabase.

Some of the bitz shown in this catalogue are shownassembled. This is not how they are supplied. Allmodels will require some assembly. Some bitzrequire nothing more complicated than affixing theminiature to its plastic base.
