ADEM™ IV System. Controls the fuelinjector solenoids to monitor fuelinjection. This system provides automaticaltitude compensation, air filter restrictionindication and it will not allow the engineto fire until it has oil pressure, actingas cold start protection and a form ofpre-lube.

Mechanical Power Train. The Catmechanical drive power train and powershift transmission provide unmatchedoperating efficiency and control on steepgrades, in poor underfoot conditions,and on haul roads and drives with highrolling resistance.

1) Transmission. The Cat four-speedplanetary power shift transmissionis matched with the direct-injectionC15 engine with ACERT™ technologyto deliver constant power over a widerange of operating speeds.

Robust Design. Designed for ruggedunderground mining conditions, theproven planetary power shift transmissionis built for long life between overhauls.

2) Lock Up Torque Convertor.Combines maximum rimpull andcushioned shifting of torque converterdrive with the efficiency and performanceof direct drive. When engaged, lock-upprovides superior power train efficiencyby delivering more power to the wheels.

Lock-Up Clutch. Quickly releases andre-engages to reduce power train torqueloads for smoother shifting, long lifeand a more comfortable ride.

Smooth Shifting. Individual clutchmodulation provides smooth clutchengagements to optimize performanceand extend clutch life.

3) Final Drives. Cat final drives workas a system with the planetary powershift transmission to deliver maximumpower to the ground. Built to withstandthe forces of high torque and impactloads, final drives provide high torquemultiplication to further reduce drivetrain stress.

Full Floating Axles. Full floating axlesrelieve internal stresses and increasedurability. Rolled splines also provideincreased service life.

Cat Data Link. Electronically integratesmachine computer systems to optimizeoverall power train performance, increasereliability and component life, andreduce operating costs.

• Controlled Throttle Shifting.Regulates engine RPM during shiftingto reduce power train stress and clutchwear by controlling engine speed, torqueconverter lock-up and transmissionclutch engagement for smoother shiftsand longer component life.

• Economy Shift Mode. Reduces enginespeeds, resulting in decreased fuelconsumption, lower noise levels andpotentially longer engine life.

• Directional Shift Management.Regulates engine speed duringdirectional shifts to prevent damagecaused by high speed directionalchanges.

• Body-up Shift Inhibitor. Prevents thetransmission from shifting above apre-programmed gear without thebody fully lowered.

Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Cat ETservice tool provides service technicianswith easy access to stored diagnosticdata through Cat Data Link to simplifyproblem diagnosis and increaseavailability.

Diagnostic Capability. Critical data fromthe electronic engine and transmissioncontrols, including transmission shifting,engine speed and fuel consumption,provides service technicians withenhanced diagnostic capability toreduce downtime and operating costs.

Overspeed Protection. The transmissioncontrol electronically senses engineconditions and automatically up-shiftsone gear to prevent overspeeding.If overspeeding occurs in top gear,the lock-up clutch is disengaged.

Integrated Braking System. The Cat oil-cooled braking system delivers reliableperformance and control in the mostextreme underground mining conditions.The integrated system combines theservice, secondary, parking brake andretarding functions in the same robustsystem for optimum braking efficiency.

Oil-Cooled Multiple Disc Brakes.Caterpillar four-wheel, forced oil-cooled,multiple disc service brakes arecontinuously cooled by a water-to-oilheat exchangers for exceptional, non-fade braking and retarding performance.

Brake Design. Cat oil-cooled disc brakesare designed with large discs and platesfor reliable, adjustment-free operationand performance. Brakes are completelyenclosed and sealed to preventcontamination and reduce maintenance.

Long Life. An oil film prevents directcontact between the discs. This designabsorbs the braking forces by shearingthe oil molecules and carrying heataway to extend brake life.

Automatic Retarder Control (ARC).Electronically controls retarding ongrade to maintain optimum engine RPMand oil cooling. Additional braking maybe applied using the manual retarderor the brake pedal.

Faster Speeds. ARC allows the operatorto maintain optimum engine speedsfor faster downhill hauls and greaterproductivity.

Superior Control. Automatic brakemodulation offers a smoother ride andbetter control in slippery conditions,allowing the operator to concentrateon driving.

Ease of Operation. ARC increasesoperating ease, resulting in greateroperator confidence with less fatigue.

Engine Overspeed Protection.Automatically activates ARC whenengine speed exceeds factory presetlevels, regardless of operator inputs,to avoid potentially damaging engineoverspeeds.

Fuel Efficiency. The engine providesadditional retarding by running againstcompression on downhill hauls.During retarding applications the engineECM reduces fuel injection to minimumvalue for exceptional fuel economy.

Ergonomic Layout. The AD30 operatorstation is ergonomically designed fortotal machine control in a comfortable,productive and safe environment.All controls, levers switches and gaugesare positioned to maximize productivityand minimize operator fatigue.

Protective Structure. Integral to the caband frame, both the Rollover ProtectiveStructure (ROPS) and Falling ObjectsProtective Structure (FOPS) areresiliently mounted to the mainframe toisolate the operator from vibration for amore comfortable ride.

Optional Enclosed Cab. Optional sound-suppressed ROPS cab provides a quiet,secure working environment. Encloseddesign provides fresh, pressurized,temperature-controlled air circulationwith air-conditioned comfort and amore comfortable working environment.

Suspension Seat. Ergonomicallydesigned, fully adjustable suspensionseat with adjustable armrests provideoptimal operator comfort. Thick cushionsreduce pressure on lower back and thighs.Wide, retractable seat belts provide asecure, comfortable restraint.

Steering Column. Comfort wheel withtilt steering provides a comfortabledriving position, secure grip andgreater control.

Monitoring System. CaterpillarElectronic Monitoring System (CEMS)continuously provides critical machinedata to keep the machine performing attop production levels. Displays arebacklit for easy viewing.

• Gauge Cluster. Maintains a constantdisplay of vital machine functions,including: engine coolant temperature,brake oil temperature, engine oilpressure and fuel level.

• Speedometer/Tachometer Module.Maintains three systems: enginespeed, ground speed and gearindicator.

• Message Center. The CaterpillarElectronic Monitoring System(CEMS) includes 4 warningcategories and provides visualand audible warning system outputsto alert operators of abnormalmachine health conditions.

Interlock. If the operator fails to applythe park brake prior to exiting the cab,the interlock system will detect theabsence of operator input and applythe park brake, neutralize the steering,implements and transmission andcommand the engine ECM to shutdown the engine.

Body Design. Cat truck bodies aredesigned for optimal strength, capacityand durability. With improved designand the use of Hardox steel, longerservice life and lower cost per tonfigures are now evident.

Body/Chassis Integration. Caterpillartruck bodies are designed and matchedwith the integrated chassis system foroptimum structural reliability, durabilityand long life.

Load Carrying Capacity. Large targetarea provides high load carryingcapacity. Its diverging flow designgives clean load ejection, whichmaximizes production and avoidswaste of material carryback.

Truck Payload Management System(TPMS). The optional TPMS systemcalculates the payload the truck iscarrying and determines truck cycle times.

Fast Hoist Cycle Times. Single-stagehoist cylinders provide fast dump cycletimes of 10.5 seconds for raise and11.2 seconds for lower.

Ejector Body. The ejector body offersclean load ejection and the capability towork in areas with restricted overheadclearance and soft underfoot conditions.
