The Common Admission Test

CAT is a National Level Management Entrance Testconducted by the IIMs.

CAT is multiple-choice based with negative-markpenalties for wrong answers.Marking Pattern

The test consists of questions that evaluate acandidates quantitative, verbal, and logical & data

interpretation abilities.

Eligibility for CAT

Admission through CAT - candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree,with at least 50% marks or equivalent.

&

45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC),Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelorsdegree/equivalent qualification examination andthose who are awaiting for final year result can also

apply.

Only 2650 students got selected for IIMs.Nearly 205,345 students

appeared in CAT year 2010-11.

The result is declared by second week of January.

Earlier CAT was conductedon the third Sunday of

November. The test durationwas two and a half hours.

Apart from the aggregate score in CAT, candidates needto clear cut-offs in each section of the CAT as well, inorder to be shortlisted for the group discussion /personal interview round.

The result is declared in termsof percentile, For example apercentile of 99 shows that

only 1% students have scoredhigher than you.
