    Aciliies

The campus o The American Universityin Dubai is the material expression o theuniversitys Mission and character. Two wordscome to mind in describing this campus American and world-class: Americanbecause o its sobriety and Jeersonianarchitectural rigor, world-class because othe notable quality o the physical plant andaccompanying acilities.

Indeed, the acilities that comprise themulti-ediice campus are nothing less than

impressive, whether they be ound in theacademic wings, student and aculty housingor administrative complex. Speciically, 14buildings dot the campus today, a StudentCenter, housing indoor sports acilities, ood-court, 50 oices and 20 classrooms/labs inaddition to several other amenities - being thelatest addition.

The accomplishment o AUDs objective todeliver a genuinely American education is

acilitated by the sports acilities (soccer ield, outdoor track, tennis/volleyball/basketballcourts, swimming pool) and other spacethat provide students with the opportunityto engage in extracurricular activities whichconstitute student lie on a typical US-basedcampus. A 900-seat auditorium serves as avenue or student assemblies, conerences, andcultural events. A Student Center, housingindoor sports acilities, was inaugurated in

September, 2008. A central indoor stadium isdesigned so that it can be dismantled into twoindependent courts used or indoor ootball, handball, basketball or volleyball. Thisstadium has a capacity o 2,500 spectators,

in addition to an outdoor spectators gallerythat aces the soccer ield and accommodatesa public o 300. Separately, there are twosquash playgrounds and a 1,600-square eet

gymnasium or males and emales and anaerobics/dancing/music room.

Advanced technology supports all aspects ocampus operations; most appropriately, thedelivery o the universitys academic programs.Speciically, 15 computer labs with both IBMand Macintosh hardware orm the basis orinstruction in IT, business administration andthe applied arts. Two language laboratoriesserve to enhance teaching eectiveness inthe universitys intensive/academic Englishcourses.

The Blackboard system is deployed toprovide instructional support in all coursesoered by the university, and students canaccess it rom any location in the world wherethere is Internet connectivity.

Among the sotware packages that are o

special useulness or M.B.A. students incarrying out research or term papers andtheses are the Statistical Package or theSocial Sciences (SPSS), the MINITABstatistical package, the LINDO package orlinear programming, SIMUL8.0 simulationsotware, Visual Interactive Sensitivity

Analysis (VISA) sotware or the decisionsciences, and IBM SPSS Amos structuralequation modeling sotware or marketingresearch. Additionally, other searchabledatabases, such as Business Source Premier,Emerald, Datamonitors MarketLine, EIUCountry Reports, Reuters Business Insights

and Lexis Nexis are accessible rom anyworkstation connected to the AUD computernetwork, and are especially useul to M.B.A.students. These databases provide online

access to thousands o ull-text papers andother material published in a large numbero leading international academic andproessional business publications.

AUDs School o Engineering houses severallabs, including those used by students inthe Computer Science and CIT programs. The physics lab is equipped with Pascoequipment or conducting a broad range oexperiments in motion dynamics, electricityand magnetism. The engineering computerlabs house over 100 PCs, equipped witheducational and proessional engineeringsotware including MatLab, Maple, PSPICE,

AutoDesk, Primavera, GeoSuite, ETABS,SAFE, SAP2000, and Heastad Methodssotware.

The Electrical and Computer EngineeringLabs comprise 14 stations with complete

sets o oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, triple DC power supplies, logic analyzers, unction generators, operational ampliiers, and semiconductor curve tracers. The labs arealso equipped with educational equipment orelectric power systems including DC motors,3-phase motors, transormers, inductionmotors, and variables speed drives. TheCivil Engineering Labs are equipped with anInstron Universal Testing Machine, a concretecrusher, and materials and geotechnicalequipment or speciic gravity, hardness, toughness, soil classiication, compaction, permeability, consolidation, direct shear and
