Communications:
With schools
The Catch Up co-ordinator keeps schools up to date with any
relevant developments including training, as well as sending
out progress charts for the Catch Up pupils, via email.
Strong link between each team member and their designated
schools, and much feedback is given to class teachers,
SENCos and Headteacher on an informal individual basis.
With parents
Devised a leaflet to inform parents of the intervention and their
child’s involvement in it.
Progress feedback is readily available for parents, and is often
shared by the class teachers during parents’ evening.

Timetabling:
Once the pupils across county have been screened and the
most appropriate children are selected, the times can be
allocated to schools.
This year, all Y3 settings within Caerphilly have received
support from the Central Team.
Generally, each school will either have a morning session with
8 pupils supported, or an afternoon session with 6 pupils.
Schools are required to carry out the second session, and
other peripatetic services visit schools, so it is important to set
up the times for the Caerphilly Team as early as possible at
the beginning of the school year, in consultation with the
schools.
Catch Up in Action

Training and Supporting the Team:
All have attended the Catch Up training and have pursued the
OCN accreditation.
New team members are allocated with a mentor, and have the
opportunity to shadow more experienced deliverers.
Observations take place, pupil booklets monitored every term,
to ensure that they deliver high quality sessions, which are
faithful to the intervention process.
A range of further training opportunities to enhance their skills.
Meets regularly to share good practice.
Strong work ethic, and has excellent communication.

Catch Up Literacy/Llythrennedd Dyfal Donc and Catch Up Numeracy/Rhifedd Dyfal Donc have both consistently been shown to help struggling learners achieve more than double the progress of typically developing learners
Evidenced in ‘Beth sy’n gweithio gyda disgyblion yng Nghymru sydd â phroblemau llythrennedd? Effeithiolrwydd cynlluniau ymyrraeth./What Works for Pupils in Wales with Literacy Difficulties? The effectiveness of intervention schemes.’ Brooks, G. (2009)
Catch Up: the impact
The impact: making a difference
All the more impressive as struggling learners make far less progress than typically developing learners
