Caterpillar Inc (NYSE CAT) an-nounced in mid-April that its new global headquarters will be located in Deer-field Illinois

ldquoWe are pleased that Caterpillar selected our community as the location for its new global headquartersrdquo stated Harriet Rosenthal mayor of Deerfield ldquoCat-erpillar joins several other well-known national and international companies who enjoy the amenities and ease of access to transportation that Deerfield has to offerrdquo

ldquoFollowing a thorough site selection process we chose this location because it is ap-proximately a 20-minute drive to OrsquoHare airport and convenient to the city of Chicago via commuter train achieving our goal to be more accessible to our global customers dealers and employeesrdquo said Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby ldquoThis site gives our employees many options to live in either an urban or suburban environment We know we have to compete for the best talent to grow our company and this location will appeal to our diverse global team today and in the futurerdquo The company expects about 100 employees to relocate this year with about 300 people in the new headquarters when fully operational in mid-2018The DBR Chamber is pleased to welcome Caterpillar and their employees to our community

Caterpillar Inc is Coming to Deerfield

The July 1st effective date of the Cook County and Chicago Sick Leave Ordinances is quickly approaching and employers must review their paid time off sick and vacation policies now to ensure compliance with the new ordinances Some of the key similarities and differences of the ordinancesrsquo provisions are highlighted below

Covered Employee ndash An employee who (1) works for an employer at least 80 hours within any 120-day period and (2) performs at least 2 hours of work in Cook County (or the City of Chicago depending on the ordinance being applied) during any 2 week period mdash including driving through county (or city) for business purposesAccrual Rate ndash Employees earn 1 hour of earned sick leave for every 40 hours they workCap ndash Employees can earn up to 40 hours of paid sick time per 12 month periodCarryover ndash 20 hours for non-FMLA employers but if the employee is FMLA eligible an additional 40 hours may be carried over for FMLA purposes only
