Dr. Catherine D. DeAngelis is Editor-in-Chief of JAMA. The Journalof the American Medical Association, Editor-in-Chief of ScientificPublications and Multimedia Applications, and Professor of Pediatrics,Johns Hopkins University of School of Medicine. She received her MDfrom the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine, and her MPHfrom the Harvard Graduate School of Public Health (Health ServicesAdministration), and her pediatric specialty training at the Johns HopkinsHospital.

Dr. DeAngelis oversees JAMA as well as nine Archives publicationsand JAMA related website content. Before her appointment with JAMA,she was vice dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty. Johns HopkinsUniversity School of Medicine, and from 1994-2000, she was editor ofArchives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She also has been amember of numerous Journal editorial boards.

She has authored or edited 11 books on Pediatrics and Medical Educationand has published over 200 original articles, chapters, editorials, andabstracts. Most of her recent publications have focused on conflicts ofinterest in medicine, on women in medicine, and on medical education.Dr. DeAngelis is a past council member of the National Academy ofScience, Institute of Medicine, a Fellow of the American Associationfor the Advancement of Science, and has served as an officer of numerousnational academic societies including past chairman of the AmericanBoard of Pediatrics and Chair of the Pediatric Accreditation Council forResidency Review Committee of the American Council on GraduateMedical Education. She is a member of the Advisory Committee to theDirector, NIH.

The Foundation for the History of Women in MedicineEstablished in 1998, the Foundation for the History of Women in Medicine was founded with the belief that knowing thehistorical past is a powerful force in shaping the future. Though relatively young, the Foundation for the History of Women inMedicine has accomplished the following: established the Alma Dea Morani Award recognizing nationally the leadership ofoutstanding women in medicine; created a research fellowship through The College of Physicians of Philadelphia; and provideda grant to initiate the digitization project to the Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine at the DrexelUniversity College of Medicine. Affiliations currently exist with The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Associationof American Medical Colleges.
