Do you know and do you experience in your life the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit? After death and resurrection Jesus promised to give His disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit.

He said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew that His disciples would need the power of the Holy Spirit to do the mission given to them. Why the apostles did need power from the Holy Spirit?

Jesus was anointed with the Spirit at the beginning of his ministry, also the disciples needed the Holy Spirit to do the mission given them by Jesus. The Holy Spirit is given to those who are baptized into Jesus Christ

to help live a life of love, peace, joy, and righteousness. The Holy Spirit fills our hearts with the love, and he gives us the strength and courage to live as disciples of Jesus. The Spirit helps us in our weaknesses,

and help us to grow in freedom – freedom from doubt, fear, and from slavery to our bad desires. Isaiah in his book foretold the seven gifts that the Spirit would give: wisdom, understanding, counsel,

fortitude, knowledge, piety, and respect and awe for the Lord (Isaiah 11:2).

Pentecost – the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and spiritual gifts and blessings from God – are made possible through the death, resurrection, and ascension of the Lord Jesus. After His resurrection Jesus

“breathed” on His disciples the Holy Spirit. God breathed life into Adam, so the Holy Spirit gives “new life” for people. With the Holy Spirit a new creation begins. God recreates us for His glory.

Do you want power to be a disciple of Jesus? Ask the Father to fill you with the strength and power of the Holy Spirit.

PASTOR´S MESSAGE

T

his Sunday at 2:00pm we have our parish grade school Mass and Graduation

Ceremony. This is a faith-filled and joyful celebration of eight years of

intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical growth and development. It also marks the

beginning of a new phase of life with new experiences, friends, challenges, and

successes. As I have come to know the eighth grade, I have been impressed by their curiosity,

breadth of interest, enthusiasm, humor and character. [They are characters.!!] and are truly a

diverse group of adolescents and a microcosm of our parish and community. They have been well

prepared for high school by excellent teachers especially as regards the understanding

and practice of their faith. We should all be very proud of them as they continue the long

heritage of Saint Joan of Arc graduates. I would like to thank in a special way all of our

parents and, often the grandparents too, who by their sacrifice and example have helped

our graduates reach this milestone.

May God bless all of our graduates on this Feast of Pentecost with courage, wisdom,

self-knowledge and joy!

- Msgr. Michael D. McGraw

Spreading “The Word”!

On this Pentecost Sunday we thank the

Holy Spirit for giving the Gift of Tongues to the Apostles enabling them

to spread the The Word of God in all languages to everyone. We

celebrate the gift of “The Word”; and Stewards of “ The Word”: our

good Sisters of Mercy at St. Joan along with their dedicated lay

teachers. They use their Time , Talents, and Treasure unselfishly,

everyday to pray for the sick, teach our children how to read , spell,

use grammar, and write proper sentences, and raise funds in support of

our ministries. So today we

celebrate The Holy Spirit and all

those who spread “The Word of

God” in song, poetry, letters,

sermons, gospels, and in the

classroom. And to that I’ll raise a

pint in honor of the good Sisters of

Mercy at St. Joan and throughout

the world. God Bless and

“Slainte”. (To your good health!)

“ORDINARY TIME”

“By means of the yearly cycle the Church celebrates the whole mystery

of Christ from his Incarnation until the day of Pentecost and the expectation

of his coming again.” (General Norms for the Liturgical Year, 17)

Ordinary Time resumes Monday following Pentecost, or 28 May, with

the 8th week. The Liturgical Color is Green. Though it is already Ordinary

Time, we also have Solemnities and Feasts within Ordinary Time like on

June 3

rd

, The Most Holy Trinity; June 10th, The Most Holy Body and

Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) and June 24

th

, The Nativity of

St. John The Baptist.

Feasts that fall on Sundays during Ordinary Time preempt the observance

of an ordinarily numbered Sunday. On preempted Sundays, the liturgical

color of the feast or solemnity replaces the liturgical color Green.

Ordinary Time concludes with the Saturday afternoon before the First

Sunday of Advent December 1, 2012.

THE MEN'S MINISTRY ANNUAL DINNER

O GOD OUR CREATOR,

from your provident hand we have received

our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

You have called us as your people and given us

the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,

and your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,

you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,

bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel

to every corner of society.

We ask you to bless us

in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.

Give us the strength of mind and heart

to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;

give us courage in making our voices heard

on behalf of the rights of your Church

and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,

a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters

gathered in your Church

in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,

so that, with every trial withstood

and every danger overcome—

for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,

and all who come after us—

this great land will always be “one nation, under God,

indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The community of St. Joan of

Arc extends a fond farewell to

long-time parishioner, Margie

Ross. Her participation here in

so many different ministries is

evidence of a faith-filled life,

sharing the Good News to one

and all. Her foremost role has

been prayer warrior, carrying

so many requests from us to

God in her daily prayer life.

And, not to neglect the Corpo-

ral Works of Mercy, Margie

volunteered at the former SJA

Thrift Shop; was a founding member of the Ministry of Care's Food

Pantry; and created dolls for children of the Migrant Worker's at

Christmas. Margie attended Bible Study for many years on Sunday

and assisted in Bereavement Ministry. What will we do without her?

It will take many of us many hours to cover her works when absent.

What will you do to help?

THANK YOU MARGIE ROSS!

Did you or someone you know

who is Catholic need preparation

to receive the Sacrament of

Confirmation?

To be in full communion with the

Catholic Church as an adult, it is

important to have received this

Sacrament.

We invite you to call Cassie

Krajewski at your earliest

convenience to find out details of

the upcoming preparation classes

for adults who would like to receive

Confirmation, the last Sacrament

of Initiation in our Church.

He oído tu

voz, y no quiero endurecerme y resistir, diciendo: después, … mañana.
