Course selection will be available in PowerSchool
to all grade 9s. Holy Trinity staff will follow up with
schools, post-selection, to assist with any
questions or concerns.
Please check with your junior high for your
PowerSchool registration access dates.
You will be selecting your courses based on your
current junior high marks. If your mark, in a core
subject, changes by June, you can make course
changes at the school on the Grade 10 registration
day in August.
Other ECSD Student
If you attend another Edmonton Catholic High
School or an Edmonton Catholic Junior High School
that is not listed, please attend the virtual Open
House on March 2, 2021. Teams Live link will be
posted on the school website.
Parents can select High School of choice via
PowerSchool. ECSD will send out further
communication in early February.

Religion (3 credits)
• Minimum of 3 Religion courses, in any sequence are required for graduation
• Courses include: Religion 15, Religion 25, Religion 35 and Religions of the World 35
Career and Life Management (CALM) (3 credits)
• Mandatory for graduation
• Typically taken in the grade 11 or 12, but acceptable in the grade 10 year
Physical Education (3 or 5 credits)
• PE 10 is mandatory for graduation
• PE 20 and 30 are 5 credits each
Academic Courses (5 credits)
A course mark of 60% is recommended when selecting 10-1 programming
and a course mark of 75% or higher when selecting IB programming.

Description
Description
Communication Technology 10 Students develop skills in video production and digital design in an engaging,
hands-on learning environment. Products include custom t-shirts, posters, and
vinyl decals.
Computer Science 10 Introductory computer programming with an emphasis on CSS, HTML, Java and
JavaScript. Hands on learning using the Raspberry Pi.
Construction 10 Students are immersed into a full construction shop to produce various projects.
Cosmetology 10 Students will understand and express creativity through hair, make-up and nail
design with professional career focus, competitions and apprenticeship.
Design Studies 10 An exploratory course focusing on the development of both had drawing,
computer automated design skills, 3D printing and 3D modelling.
Food Studies 10 Students develop basic kitchen skills, examine nutritional value of foods and
learn proper food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
Sports Performance 10 For students with a passion for athletics, sports and fitness. Combines
classroom and activity based learning.
Psychology 20 This class explores the field of psychology, and touches on the following topics -
history of psychological approaches, psychological disorders, the development of
personality and social psychology.
Art 10 Foundational course focused on critical analysis of art, exploration of a variety of
media and technical skills.
Drama 10 Introductory course for students interested in studying all aspects of theatre.
Film and Media Arts 15 Introduction to film and media arts exploring different styles of film, directing,
writing and film creation.
General Music 10 AP
(Piano / Guitar)
Beginning piano or guitar with no previous experience. Cannot be taken with
General Music 10H.
General Music 10 H (Drumline) Introductory drum and percussion ensemble. No experience required. Cannot be
taken with General Music 10AP.
Instrumental Jazz 15 A jazz ensemble for students with instrumental music experience. Co-requisite is
Instrumental Music 10.
Instrumental Music 10 A full ensemble experience for students with band experience. Performances
and festivals occur throughout the year.
Choral Music 10 Ensemble singing in a variety of vocal styles. Performances occur throughout the
year. This course has no pre-requisite.
Dance 15 Provides training and performance opportunities for both beginner and more
experienced students who are interested in furthering their knowledge and skill
level while earning high school credit.
