“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete” (Jn 15:11). My dear parishioners,

This time, I want to share some thoughts that I’ve had about the meaning of joy. As we live through the Christmas season and look forward to the New

Year, I would like to keep in mind some factors that constitute a characteristic aspect of the human person-Christian. One of the human qualities that come to light the most in us is joy. It is an essential component and a growth factor in our everyday encounters. It is easy to identify people who have a special spark of joy within them. We try to reach out to these people to get recharged by their joy. Joy is a feeling that expresses the pleasure and desire of performing an action or sharing something. It is the ability to enjoy what we are, what we have, what we do, and the real connection with our external reality. It expresses the harmony of the interior of a person and what is lived externally. We identify expressions of joy in an authentic smile, in a serene and transparent gaze, in the friendly greeting, in attitudes of closeness, in a healthy relationship with others, and the search for peace and harmony. Joy is the manifestation of what we identify as happiness. One of our lives’ tasks is the search for joy and to try keeping it alive as long as possible. Therefore, it is necessary to know the causes that give this joy to us. What makes me happy? When and where do I feel happy and fulfilled? What situations bring me happiness and joy? The task of identifying the causes of our joy represents a journey of deep self-knowledge. It involves constant contact with ourselves and with the sources of our personality. It is a continuous discovery of who we are, what we want, and how we carry out our life. As we establish contact with our roots, we can encourage the expression of fuller and more authentic feelings of joy. As we get to know ourselves, we establish a strong personal bond and a more authentic and healthy expression of our joyful way of living. The sense of human fullness that is achieved with the congruence between who we are and what we do has various manifestations that can be observed. This sense of self-fulfillment has constant expressions of joy that reflect this feeling of integrity. We know that one of the goals of our life is to respond to God through happiness with who we are and what we do. This human feeling is what moves us to find our true vocation. From there, we can respond to God with authentic happiness and joy. Father Juan

“Les he dicho estas cosas, para que mi alegría esté en ustedes y su alegría sea plena” (Jn 15:11).

Mis queridos parroquianos, en esta ocasión he querido compartir con ustedes algunos pensamientos que he tenido en mente acerca de lo que es la alegría. Al vivir la Navidad y la espera del Año Nuevo, quiero que tengamos en cuenta algunas cosas que constituyen un aspecto característico del ser humano-

cristiano. Uno de los rasgos humanos que más sale a la luz, es la alegría. Es un ingrediente importante y un factor de crecimiento en el encuentro cotidiano. Es fácil identificar a las personas que tienen dentro de sí una chispa especial de alegría. A estas personas nos procuramos acercar para sentirnos contagiados de su alegría. La alegría es un sentimiento que manifiesta el place y gusto de realizar una acción o compartir algo. Es la capacidad de disfrutar lo que se es, lo que se tiene, lo que se hace y la conexión total con la realidad exterior. Expresa la armonía del interior de la persona y la congruencia con lo que se vive exteriormente. Las expresiones de la alegría las identificamos en la sonrisa autentica, en la mirada serena y transparente, en el saludo amable, en actitudes de cercanía, de sana relación con los demás y en la búsqueda de la paz y armonía. La alegría es la manifestación de un gozo pleno que identificamos como felicidad. Una de las tareas de nuestra vida es la búsqueda de la alegría y procurar mantenerla viva el mayor tiempo posible. Por ello es necesario conocer las causas que en nuestra persona producen esta alegría. ¿Qué me hace estar alegre? ¿Cuándo y donde me siento alegre y con bienestar? ¿Qué me hace ser feliz, que luego manifiesta a través de mi alegría? ¿Qué situaciones me producen felicidad y alegría? La tarea de identificar las causas de nuestra alegría representa un trabo de autoconocimiento profundo. Supone un contacto constante con nosotros mismos y con las fuentes de nuestra personalidad. Es un descubrimiento constante de quienes somos, qué queremos y cómo vamos realizando nuestra vida. En la medida que establecemos contacto con nuestras raíces y brotes de alegría, podemos favorecer la expresión de sentimientos más plenos y auténticos de alegría. Conforme nos vamos conociendo a nosotros mismos establecemos un fuerte vinculo personal y se garantiza una expresión mas autentica y sana de nuestra alegría de vivir.El sentido de plenitud humana que se logra con la congruencia entre lo que la persona es y lo que hace, tiene diversas manifestaciones que se pueden observar. Este sentido de autorrealización de la persona tiene brotes constantes de alegría que reflejan este sentimiento de integridad. Sabemos que el fin de nuestra vida es responder a Dios a través de la felicidad con lo que somos y hacemos. Este sentimiento humano es lo que nos mueve a encontrar nuestra verdadera vocación y desde ahí responder al llamado de Dios con una felicidad y alegría auténticas. Padre Juan

It was a year full of many challenges and obstacles, and for many families, Christmas gifts for their children or teens were not an option, but their Christmas tree will not be empty this year, thanks to you. Regardless of the gift size, your compassionate action to buy an extra gift for someone in our community will impact the heart of these teens or children. I continue to be incredibly proud to form part of this parish family, that as always, you continue to demonstrate compassion and love to help others! The Holy Innocents Feast Day -December 28 ( Monday) at 6:00 pm Mass. The Feast of the Holy Innocents is an excellent time for parents to inaugurate the custom of blessing their children. Parents can simply sign (or ring to the priest) a cross on the child’s forehead with the right thumb dipped in holy water and say: May God bless you, and may He be the Guardian of your heart and mind—the Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Los padres pueden simplemente poner (o llevar al sacerdote) una cruz en la frente del niño con el pulgar derecho mojado en agua bendita y decir: Que Dios te bendiga y que Él sea el Guardián de tu corazón y tu mente: el Padre, + Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
