First Holy CommunionOur second grade students celebrated their First Holy Communion this past Saturday. Fr. Dennis presided over a beautiful Mass, Mrs. Stach led the students in song, and the children were precious angels as they received Christ’s Body and Blood for the first time. Special thanks to second grade teachers: Mrs. Castilleja, Ms. Kincer and Mrs. Ramos.

Second grade little buddies gave their 6th grade big buddies a loaf of bread with a special request last week: each time the 6th grader eats a piece of the bread he/she needs to offer a prayer for their little buddy who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday.The big buddies surprised the 2nd graders with handmade cards to congratulate them on making their First Communion. submitted by: Kathy Dylla

On Monday our sixth grade Religion class delivered 6 boxes of books to Mr. Bill Cancel, who works with the St. Matthew Refugee community. The students learned about the purpose of the “Little Free Library” box and the journey some refugees have taken to join our church community.The students enjoyed filling the Free Library with their donated books from their Lenten Service Project: 40 Boxes of Books for 40 Days of Lent.

Election - Sat., May 19th and Sun., May 20th during all church Masses
The School Council assists, counsels, and advis-es the St. Matthew School administration and pas-tor and provides sound judgment on the direction of the school, its policies and procedures, and has the responsibility of approving the school budget each year. The School Council is made up of 10 elected members (5 men and 5 women), along with the pas-tor, principal, and other members of the parish and school administration. A three year term commitment is required of each School Council member. Three new members will be elected by the parishioners this May. Meetings are held every 3rd Thursday of each month or as determined by the pastor.

Sam Greco (below, left) won 2nd place in boys singles at the AIAL district tennis championship! Sam & his partner Elle Reede also won 2nd place at the Tennis District Championship for mixed doubles!

Our Softball and Baseball teams have had a great week! They were victorious over Holy Spirit on Tuesday, and they did very well at the St. Luke’s Tournament last weekend. Our Girls came away with Third Place and the Boys (Baseball Team) won First Place!

Our 6th grade students worked on an inventive project this week inventing an Olympian and creating a comic or myth about their“mythological” character.

8th grade Religion classes had a lesson about Divine Mercy Sunday and then enjoyed “Divine Mercy” Sundaes...
Last Sunday, the stem club held its end of the year party with a lego challenge at the McDonald center, hosted by SA Bricks. During the party, 3 scholarships towards a STEM related summer camp were raffled. The club had an amazing season and we look for-ward to next year! An informational meeting will be held in early May for parents of incoming 4-8th graders. Spots will be very limited, so please be on the lookout and plan to attend!
STEM Club End-of-Year Party
The STEM club held its last meeting of the year last week, ending with fetal pig dissections, an amazing session led by NISD instructor, Mr. John McClaren. Students were able to learn about every organ system through this truly hands on experience!
