As Cardinal Seán stated in the bulletin insert last weekend; “Every day, our collective support of those

working in ministry transforms lives. The bereaved, the sick, the elderly, the afflicted, the youth and countless others depend on all of us to share the good news that in Christ, we are never alone.” !!

You can participate in the Catholic Appeal this weekend by completing the inpew envelope at Mass. By doing this you will support your parish in their goal and express solidarity with our brothers and

sisters in Christ. For more information, please visit bostoncatholicappeal.org. Thank you. !

MARCH 11, 2018: FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT!

C"#$%&$'($&) $% ' P#,-.%%!

Why is the world the way it is? We all wonder that from time to time. Each successive generation projects rosehued longing on the past and casts furtive glances at the

impending future. We see forces beyond our control in nature and in the newspaper. The world is changing and we are being pulled out with the tide. !!

In the face of this confusion, today's Gospel features one of the most oftquoted Scripture verses of all time: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone

who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” But if Christ has come, why is the world so challenging? Why is the world still to our eyes being carried off in a proverbial hand basket? Jesus’ response is a deeply personal one. “This is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to

light.” Patterns arise, habits are formed, and systems become engrained, but each is the result of an interconnected web of human choices.!!

Where do we stand? Our answers, perhaps, vary from week to week, hour to hour, missed traffic light to spilled coffee to teenage child's rebellion. The world is not perfect because we are not perfect. Our parish is flawed

because we are flawed. Our families need work because every one of us needs to be converted. Christianity is a process, not a destination! !!

This Sunday, Jesus invites us to consider our own lives. Where in our own lives do we prefer darkness to light? What flaws are we trying to hide? Humbly acknowledge those places today. Ask God for the grace to be transformed. Share with your spouse or a friend where you would like to improve this week. “Whoever loves truth

comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.” !

Oftentimes at sports events, concerts and

the like, we see people holding a sign “John 3:16.” Do we consider the truth of that text when we see it or do we see it as

nonsense? This very text is presented to us in today’s Gospel. It is given to us to remind us of the extent of God’s love. All are included in God’s vast

inclusive love. St Augustine puts it this way: "God loves each one of us as if there was only one of us to love." As your Lenten journey continues take a few

minutes to ponder God’s allinclusive love for you and how you will respond to that love.!

We encounter Andrise, a teacher in Haiti who knows the importance of forming young people who will

give back to the community and their country. Reflect on the role teachers have played in bringing you closer to God and your community. How can you

support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more information.!

I’m guessing many of you have a new appreciation for how Noah felt during his 40 days on the ark! Our prayers (and offers for help) continue to be shared as we

anticipate the arrival of daylight savings time this weekend! I am READY for spring and all the Promise that Easter brings with it. !!

Saint Jerome School is raffling two tickets to the opening night of Hamilton:

An American Musical, at the Boston Opera House on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:30pm. Raffle tickets are $5 each and will be mailed to you. The lucky winning ticket will be drawn at the $10,000

Drawing on April 7. You do not need to be present to win. Raffle tickets are available at the school office or on our website at stjeromeschoolweymouth.org (under “more”/”shop”)!!

Did you know?….part of the new tax

law allows parents to use their 529

Accounts to pay for their children’s

Catholic elementary education?

Students in elementary and secondary schools, including private and religious schools, can apply up to $10,000 per year towards tuition and that annual gifts of up to $15,000 made to a 529 account will not have estate tax implications! This could be a wonderful opportunity for you to consider enrolling your child or grandchild in a Catholic school. A child’s formative early years, both in education and faith, are critical to their longterm success. Feel free to contact the school or your accountant with questions.!!

On March 13, we will welcome any student in grades K8 who is

interested in seeing firsthand what a day at Saint Jerome School is like to join us from 9am2pm. Each student guest will be paired with a current student and made to feel welcome and engaged. Please call the school (7813351235) or email [email protected] to get set up. This is a day off for Weymouth schools and a half day for Quincy schools so a perfect chance to come see for yourself without missing any instructional time!!

March is National Nutrition Month !Watch those Carbs!! Carbohydrates provide a quick energy boost but convert to starch and can cause higher blood sugar levels. Generally, processed foods contain high amounts of carbs. It is best to eat unprocessed carbs like whole grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables. Proteins provide a slow steady form of energy and are found in all meats, dairy, fish and beans. Eat healthy!!!!
