CATIA SHAPE

CATIA Distiller extends thealready released CATIA LiveDistiller functionality to furtherthe use and “share-ability” of 3D assets to new audiences.It provides user-friendlycontent for consumers,

The Body in White communi-ty benefits from a new func-tional approach that provides

This FunctionalModeling technology isunique in the marketplaceand provides designers withgreat flexibility to quickly eva-luate multiple design varia-tions, while simultaneouslyenhancing productivity.

Process-oriented functionalfeatures like Hole, Diabolo,Dart, Contact Flange, Stamp,and Bead contain inherentspecifications and behaviorsthat interact in specific ways.

Users have the ability to dy-namically modify, live, thevalues of existing parametersof these functional featuresby using 3D manipulatorsinstead of having to enteredition command panels. inWhite, especially by optimiz-ing parts for the tooling/dieprocess. You can now reworkthe surfaces locally in orderto enhance their quality andfulfill manufacturing requests.

Sewing is an operation com-bining a surface upon anexisting element. This capa-bility adds or removes sur-face by modifying the existingelement. A new feature willsew a given surface on anexisting support. The outputwill be a new skin. This ap-proach eliminates the need tocreate auxiliary geometries.

Offers 3D data optimizationand preparation for mul-tiple purposes

A 3D model can be used indifferent situations with differ-ent levels of definition anddetails. For multiple purpos-es, like industrial design,engineering, simulation, ormarketing, the preparation

and optimization of the datais critical. In some cases,there is no need for the invis-ible data; you just want to seethe exterior aspect and vi-sualize it in a 3D environ-ment. Removing all of theinvisible data significantlyreduces the size of the modeland the computation time ofsome applications.

The main goal of CATIA Dis-tiller is to take an existing 3Dmodel in the V6 databaseand to create new ones opti-mized for specific uses, suchas, real-time visualization,virtual reality (VR) expe-riences, simulation or render-

ing. It allows you to optimize3D models through data tes-sellation, re-organization andsimplification. The “distilled”models are uploaded backinto the V6 database, andcan be exported to other ap-plications, such as, 3DXMLfiles or published on the3DVIA.com online communi-ty.

Introduces Blend Corner

command

The Blend Corner command,added to the Shape DesignWorkbench, provides partoptimization of the Tool-ing/Die process for the Bodyin White (BiW) solution, byenabling local rework of sur-faces to achieve better quali-ty. This is adapted to someparticular BiW toolingprocesses that forbid modify-

ing the BiW part for the de-sign of the tool and needgreater round fillets withgreater radius and fewer dis-continuities for manufacturingpurposes. You can now re-shape some portions of asupport locally without mod-ifying the existing featurehistory thanks to this new

flexible command, which canbe used on top of alreadyexisting fillets. Modifying thesurface is very intuitivethanks to sliders in the 3Dviewer.

Enhances Reverse Engi-neering User Interface (UI)

You can now quickly andeasily create a cloud of points(or a mesh) from a file. Simp-ly drag and drop a digit filedescribing a cloud of points(scanned or computed) or amesh in the workbench tocreate the correspondingentity. This improves produc-tivity by proposing a logical

follow-up of the processes.Also, the user interface (UI) isimproved, impacting the fol-lowing commands: Activate,Remove, Split, Align by BestFit, Power Fit, Basic SurfaceRecognition. The selectiondialog box and the optionsavailable in the contextualmenu are replaced by a bal-loon when selecting a cloudof points or a mesh, display-ing only the available options.

Enhances Sketch Tracerimage edition and update 

This provides a way to quick-ly edit a Freestyle SketchTracer image with the dedi-cated software, and to updatethe painting when modifica-tions are performed. Using anew icon, the user starts thesoftware associated by Win-dows to the file type of the

image, and CATIA will auto-matically detect the softwareclosing and update the Paint-ing with the new version ofthe image. This significalnlyimproves productivity andergonomy for the modificationof Freestyle Sketch Tracerpaintings in V6.

Integrates the new Paintercommand throughout allworkbenches

Through a new Painter com-mand, available in the Partand Surface Design Work-bench, the user is able toflexibly and easily apply aneffect from a predefined ef-fect library onto every geome-trical element of a CATShape (body, solid, surface,up to the face level), enhanc-ing the model with superbrealism. The visual effect canbe removed through thesame command. Effects willhave the same behavior asexisting graphical properties

(colors, opacity).

Offers UV Integration inRTR and PH1

Visualizing a 3D mock-upwith very large data is alwaysa challenge. V6R2011 intro-duces a new UVR format thatis lighter. As opposed toCGR, UV is not a fixed accu-racy file format; rather it con-tains a low accuracy poly-

gonal representation (calledbase mesh) which can berefined to reach a given accu-racy. UVR does not bringadditional behavior specific torendering, but by reducingthe amount of triangles usedto represent a shape, it im-proves performance (file size,memory consumption anddownload time) and scalabili-ty for large data on all the V6applications. The user is now

be able to load a largeamount of data on screen,saving a considerableamount of time for preparingdata for an interactive review.

This enables you to use anyPLM Object other than Path-way Segments to route the

routable. You are no longerconstrained to using PathwaySegments as the only routecomponent. This addresses,for example, specific High Tech requirements that ena-ble you to consider someconducting surfaces are rout-able by the system. 

Enhances spreadsheetuser interface

A new spreadsheet-like userinterface for the Requirement,Functional, Logical, andPhysical (RFLP) data isavailable. Instead of the 2Dor 3D representations, it dis-plays a table of all of the ob-

 jects in the model, allowingyou to browse or edit theexisting objects, and createnew ones. You can createsub function/logical compo-nents, create ports and con-nections, edit properties,delete, etc. This is very usefulif you are dealing with heavy

models with a large numberof components and links, asthe default representationsare filled quickly. The spread-sheet allows you to manage amassive amount of data with-out taking care of the repre-sentation and productivelyperform all of the operationspossible.

In many customer processes,the reuse of complete elec-trical harnesses is a dailyneed. When many electricalsystems are identical for bothsides of a vehicle, it is veryuseful to be able to generatethe symmetrical harness witha minimum number of inte-ractions rather than totallyredesigning the harness. Synchronizes wire harnesswith logical harness

A new command is intro-duced that allows users toautomatically use the designcontent/changes from the 2Delectrical schematic and thedesign content/changes fromthe 3D space reservation inorder to create or update the3D physical design. It is nowpossible to generate physicalharness bundles and

branches based on logicalpathway segments. Reusinglogical information to buildphysical data will save timeand avoid doing twice thework, firstly in the logical de-sign, and secondly in the 3Ddesign. This also facilitatesthe adoption of the CATIASystem application for elec-trical design since users willtake advantage of the easiertransition to the physical de-

sign compared to workingwith an external ECAD appli-cation, and having to importthe data. With this new de-sign change managementtool, the logical to physicalprocess is very efficient.

Simplifies FTA creation

With this new command,users can directly select de-vices, supports, and seg-

ments to create the dimen-sioning, instead of having toselect planes and lines. Us-ers can very quickly createmultiple dimensions betweentheir selected points in just afew clicks. Advanced elec-trical dimensioning enablesyou to dimension a specificpath of segments between

electrical components. Ulti-mately, you now have a moreproductive tool for processingFTA work. 

Defines insulation for pip-ing parts

This enhancement allows youto insulate a piping part. Ithelps you to model thermalinsulation and to avoid hu-man contact with the pipe.You are able to define rec-tangular insulation geometry.This helps you to check thatthere is enough space for theinsulation and that there is noclash with the environment.The insulation process is

candidate for specification-driven part placement.
