CLASS: __________

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the Xinmin Family. In Xinmin, we believe in giving your child a holistic learning experience and

CCAs play a big role in shaping your child’s secondary school experiences. In the past, CCA was known as “ECA”,

or Extra Curricular Activities, and the intentional change to “CCA”, or Co-Curricular Activities, signals the intent

of MOE to give CCAs due recognition for the important role they play in the school’s curriculum. CCAs are one

of the many platforms provided in Xinmin for students to pursue their interests and develop their talents

outside of the academic arena. In Xinmin, we have 4 categories of CCA, namely Sports and Games, Aesthetics,

Uniformed Groups and Clubs and Societies. Each category has about 4 to 5 CCAs, thus catering to the diverse

interests of our students. More information can be found in this booklet.

Our CCAs have done extremely well over the past few years. Our Sports CCAs consistently qualify for the

National rounds from the zonal stages in the National School Games, giving our athletes the chance to

compete against the best amongst their peers. In 2013, all our Aesthetics CCAs achieved a Distinction, the

highest accolade awarded, at the Singapore Youth Festival. Our amateur artistes also have many opportunities

to showcase their talents in public performances and events. 3 Golds and 2 Silvers obtained by our Uniformed

Groups in their various Unit Competitions affirm their efforts in developing each child to be a rugged and

resilient individual. Last but not least, our Clubs and Societies are recognised for their efforts in giving students

a varied CCA experience as well as providing quality service to the school.

Such successes do not come easily and in Xinmin, we invest heavily in resources for our CCAs, such as

manpower, facilities and others. Our international-standard speed climbing wall, our very own shooting range

and, of course, our up-and-coming Creative Art Complex are testaments of our continued commitment

towards improvement and giving your child the best experience possible. Our dedicated teachers, coaches and

volunteers also play an active role in their respective CCAs to help students gain a positive and meaningful

experience. But perhaps the key focus of our CCAs is the emphasis on character building and the belief that the

journey is more important than the destination. Whatever success that comes our way is a bonus for our

efforts in trying to imbue in our students the school values of Mindset for Excellence, Resilience, Respect,

Responsibility, Integrity, Care and Harmony.

This year (2014), MOE is introducing a new CCA Grading System for the Sec 1s, LEAPS 2.0. Under LEAPS 2.0,

your child’s active and progressive participation and development in the 4 domains of Leadership,

Achievement, Participation and Service will determine the levels of attainment reached (Level 1 to 5) and this

would eventually contribute to an overall CCA grade (Excellent/Good/Fair) when your child graduates. This

booklet contains more detailed information with regards to LEAPS 2.0.

Finally, as we welcome your child into the Xinmin family and look forward to exciting times ahead, it is our

sincere hope that you, as parents, will partner the school and give your child the support needed to be an

active contributor in his or her CCA.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Gabriel Tay

Besides training and sharing sessions, members take part in various art

competitions to compete with artists from other schools.

“Improvise, Adapt, Overcome”

In ODAC, members engage in challenging and adventurous activities during

both local and overseas expeditions. In the process, they develop enhanced

self-confidence and independence, capacity for empathy through living and

working closely with others as well and develop problem-solving skills either as

an individual or as a group.

Exposed to the sometimes unpredictable outdoors, they also learn to live with

uncertainty and manage themselves in a risky and uncertain environment. The

conscious practice of our mantra – Improvise, Adapt, Overcome – ensures that

they adopt a creative mindset and success-based attitude to overcome

challenging situations. This heightens their self-esteem as they discover they

can succeed, a discovery that has a direct effect on subsequent engagement

and motivation, thus nurturing the resilience to cope with whatever challenges
