The Craven Community College Foundation’s Lifetime Learning Center is pleased to announce The Best of Scotland, an international travel and learn adventure. Our 9-day tour will feature a harmonious blend of culture and countryside.

AAA of the Carolinas is our designated agent and our tour is a customized itinerary through the Trafalgar Premiere program, a provider known for their experienced tour directors and local guides. These experienced professionals have the local knowledge to do what the guidebooks can’t – give you an insider’s perspective on each destination and create a vacation experience you simply could not have on your own.

Our goal is to create an international adventure where our participants feel like travelers, not tourists, and we share an ‘insider’s view’ of Scotland with an authentic and enhanced travel and learning experience.

Day1-DEPARTUSA Transfer by motor coach from New Bern's Craven Community College to Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU). We'll be on a USAir overnight flight to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Day2-EDINBURGHARRIVAL(3Nights)Arrive in Edinburgh. Transfer to downtown Edinburgh, to our centrally located hotel. Relax and explore this fascinating capital city. Meals today are on our own. We'll advise you on complete dining options within walking distance.

Day3-FULLDAYofDISCOVERY-EDINBURGHCraven's Director of the Lifetime Learning Center, Jennifer Baer, will lead walking tours to visit The Scottish National Portrait Gallery (morning) and The Scottish National Gallery (afternoon). There are many other museums and attractions within walking distance of our city center hotel. If you want to explore on your own we'll provide maps and advise.

This evening we join the Trafalgar tour, meet our traveling companions and our Travel Director. We'll be guests at a Welcome Pub Reception, which includes a typical Scottish pub meal and drinks.Meal(s) Full Breakfast, Welcome Reception

Day4-EDINBURGHSIGHTSEEINGANDFREETIMEThis morning, your Local Expert takes you on a sightseeing tour of this wonderful city, including a visit to Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city. See the Royal Mile, the elegant Palace of Holyroodhouse in the shadow of Arthur's Seat, and the new Scottish Parliament building. Admire the elegant Georgian architecture in the New Town. Day5-EDINBURGH–ST.ANDREWS–PITLOCHRY–SCOTTISHHIGHLANDS(2Nights)Travel across the Firth of Forth to St. Andrews to view the celebrated ancient university and the home of golf. Continue north across the Tay at Dundee, to visit Pitlochry, a charming village on the banks of the River Tummel. View Eilean Donan Castle before crossing the bridge to the Isle of Skye. Visit the Clan Donald Centre and the Museum of the Isles, where you can trace your genealogy or explore the wonderful gardens. Day7-SCOTTISHHIGHLANDS–GLENCOE–GLASGOW(2NIGHTS)Stop at the Commando Memorial near Fort William for breath taking views of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Continue south through Glencoe, 'Glen of the Weeping', site of the infamous massacre of the Macdonald clan by the Campbells in 1692. Journey along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, immortalized in the well-known Scottish song, to the lively city of Glasgow. This afternoon visit St. Mungo's Cathedral, dedicated to the patron saint and founder of the city. Your orientation tour of Glasgow also includes magnificent George Square and the River Clyde, former heart of the shipbuilding industry.Meal(s) Full Breakfast

Day8-STIRLINGCASTLEEXCURSIONEnjoy some free time this morning in Glasgow to explore this vibrant city. Later visit Stirling Castle, a symbol of national pride and once a place of great power. See the 'Stirling Heads' Gallery and visit the halls, chapels and bedrooms of this imposing castle. From the castle walls view the Wallace Monument – dedicated to Sir William Wallace and overlooking the battlefield of Stirling Bridge. Later travel into the Trossachs National Park. Here enjoy a Local Speciality visit to Glengoyne Whisky Distillery to sample a 'wee dram'. PricingandTermsThe cost per person for the tour is $4,169, based on double occupancy. The tour includes accommodations for 7 nights with breakfast daily, a welcome reception, 4 dinners, all guide and escort services, admissions as discribed in the itinerary and deluxe motorcoach transportation. Jennifer Baer, Coordinator of Craven Community College's Lifetime Learning Center, will lead the group and work in partnership with the Trafalgar Tour Director for the benefit, comfort and safety of our group from departure to return.

Air travel is INCLUDED. We have arranged for a group booking, with departure and return through Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU).

This tour will be limited to a maximum of 24 participants. A minimum of 16 participants will be required to make the group reservation.

To complete your registration for "The Best of Scotland" and secure one of the 24 seats on our group tour: 1.) Complete a registration form and submit it to AAA of the Carolinas, Corri Besier, Travel Sales Specialist at (252) 523-77772.) Pay the trip deposit of $2,000 plus the $250.00 travel insurance premium. ($2,250.00 per person)

Note: The individual cost of the travel insurance is based on the value of our tour. It is set at a base fee of $250 for everyone, regardless of age. The purchase of this insurance is a requirement of Craven Community College for participation in this group trip. The required insurance is provided through Trafalgar. A separate brochure with complete points of coverage is available.

Registrations will be secured on a first-come, first-served basis from the date that deposits are received by AAA of the Carolinas. Final payments are due on or before February 18, 2015. There is an advance payment discount of $184.00, if you pay for your trip in full by Dec. 18, 2014. There is an additional discount of $92, if you are a repeat traveler with Tafalgar or Brendan Tours.
