ACCESSIBILITY Site Accessiblity (Sec. 1127B)At least one accessible route within the boundary of the site shall be provided from public transportation stops,accessible parking and accessible passenger loading zones, and public streets or sidewalks, to the accessiblebuilding entrance they serve. At least one accessible route shall connect accessible buildings, facilities, elementsand spaces that are on the same site. The accessible paths of travel must comply with all of the following: 1) are continuously accessible; 2) have maximum 1/2" changes in elevation; 3) are minimum 48" in width;4) where necessary to change elevation at a slope exceeding 5% shall have ramps complying with CBC 1007. Accessible Entrances and Exits (Sec. 1133B)The level and clear area on each side of an exit door shall have a length in the direction of the door swing of atleast 60 inches and a length opposite the door swing of 48 inches; shall extend 24 inches past the strike edgeof the door for exterior doors and 18 inches past the strike edge for interior doors. Within units, the length on eachside of a door may be 44 inches. Per Sec. 1133B.2.4.5, only when a door is located in a recess or alcove greaterthan 8 inches are additional strike side clearances required. 12" strikeside clearance required at push side ofdoors with closers. Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledgeor effort. Elevators (Chapter 30)Accessible elevators require: 1) minimum 36" clear wide car and hoistway door; 2) automatic reopening doors;3) door closing delay and minimum 5 second fully open; 4) minimum 80" x 54" interior dimensions for center-opening doors or 68" x 54" interior dimensions for side-sliding opening doors; 5) elevator buttons within 54" offloor for side approach and within 48" for front approach, emergency controls within 35" of the floor; 6) illuminatedcontrol buttons; 7) audible signal that car is stopping of passing a floor; 8) handrail at nominal height of 32" abovethe floor with 1.5" clear to wall on one wall; 9) visual and sudible car-answering and direction of travel calls; and10) raised letter/Braille floor numbers on the landing jambs at all floors located 60" above the floor on both sidesof the door.
