Leslie discussed how brain research has shown that incorporating physical activity/energizers into the school day can help students improve focus and increase academic achievement. She teaches an in-district class called, BRAIN BREAKS AND CLASSROOM ENERGIZERS (K-12). Bob Rice, School Board member, was present and communicated that at this time the Board will not implement structured physical activity and let principals set their own recess policies. **On December 6 th , 2010 the Arizona Republic also reported on the district’s policy in the Chandler section. The article is available online at www.azcentral.com ** Political Action Update: Dawn K. thanked everyone who supported the various campaign efforts in the November elections. Although there were some heartbreaking losses, the Bond election passed successfully and 3 School Board members were elected who will continue to support the teachers and carefully make decisions for the district. She reminds us to stay positive. Reporter Michelle Reese from the AZ Tribune is writing a story on teachers; she was on hand to talk to members. Various Committees need member support. Softball Tournament & Rally Update: Thanks to all of the teams who participated in the tournament and rally on October 30 th at Snedigar Park. Jackie Tambone and Cecilia Loera did a fantastic job! Thanks ladies! 1 st Place: Riggs Elementary 2 nd Place: CTA Liberty 3 rd Place: Frye Elementary Member to Member Grant: The committee awarded 21 grants totaling $4,000! Thanks to all of our members who took the time to apply, and special thanks to those members who gave up their time to serve on the grant committee! See the CEA website for a list of grant winners. Membership Update: Nicole W. and Mike G. shared the results from the Fall Membership drive and awarded members $5 for every new member recruit. Congratulations to Jackie T., who won the $100 CASH drawing! CEA is also holding a Winter Incentive drive; you can continue to earn $$$ for every new member recruit!
