finalised and submitted to be included in
the Jan 2018 graduation book.
On 4th December,
2017 the College
principal received two
guests from the
University Of Pretoria,
South Africa, Prof
Johan Wassermann &
Dr Denise Bentrovato
Office of the Principal under the company of Dr. Dorothy
Ssebowa from the Department of
Humanities and Language Education,
School of Education, CEES, Makerere
University.
The guests indicated readiness to
collaborate with the College of
Education and External Studies in
various academic engagements.
The College Principal welcomed them to
Makerere University and
thanked them for organising
the Second International
Conference on History
Education.
CEES Mgt visits Mak Katungulu Campus
College Management team led by the
College Principal Prof F. Masagazi-
Masaazi visited the Makerere University,
Katungulu Campus in Bushenyi for a fact
finding mission. This has been an
arrangement by the University
Management to plan for the Opening of
that campus. The campus has facilities
like Lecture rooms, Computer
Laboratories, Student Hostels, Sick Bay,
Administration Block
and Staff Offices. The
report about this
visitation is expected
before the end of this
month (December
2017)

Collaborating with CEES in the
Meeting. During the Training, Dr.
David Kabugo gave a presentation,
and Associate Professor Mugagga
also addressed participants on the
good in collaborating with CEES to
better early childhood Education
in Uganda. Officials from the
Ministry of Education also
addressed the participants

On 4th December 2017, the preparation meeting for the International Conference on History Education was held in the Dean’s Office School of Education, It was Chaired by Dr. Athonny Mugagga who was delegated by the Dean, SoE. Team from the University of Pretoria, South Africa also attended the meeting ( Prof Johan Wassermann & Dr Denise Bentrovato)
On 7th and 8th December the Department held a very successful International Conference on History Education in Africa. The aim of the conference was to stimulate discussion and reflection, and consolidate extant knowledge on the state of history education in Uganda, Africa, while approaching the current debate in the teaching of history in Africa. The theme of the conference is “Teaching and learning history in a changing Africa: possibilities and challenges in the 21st century”. It was held at Makerere University, School of Food Technology. Key note speaker was Prof Ssekamwa

Mr. Godfrey Mayende attended a workshop a workshop at Online Educa Berlin moderated by Prof. Gilly Salmon the originator of the Five Stage model

DELP Project was represented at the international Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication Technologies and learning . Two Papers were presented and will be published in Springer. Presented a paper on “Contextualisation of Elearning Systems in Higher Education Institutions” by Gerald Gwamba , Jaco Renken, Paul Birevu Muyinda and Dianah Nampijja. Another paper was presented on “Towards Technology for supporting Effective Online Learning Groups” by Mayende Godfrey, Andreas Prinz, Paul Birevu Muyinda
On 5th December 2017, Dr. Samuel Ndeda Siminyu was a warded Doctor of Education in Higher Education, by University of Liverpool, UK.
Thesis title: Learner utilisation of open educational resources at Makerere University: a mixed methods study In the 140th meeting of Makerere University council, the Operationalisation of the open, Distance and E-Learning strategy was discussed and it was given a go-ahead.
