OwnershipCelador is an independent production company formed
in 1983. They also produced lots of popular TV shows and is best know for ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ and also own eighteen radio stations.
They was also taken over by Complete Communications causing Celador to expand it s fledgling radio, film and global businesses. After, Complete Comunications announced to sell Calador.
In 2006 offered to sell the UK programme ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ and then eventually sell the other parts of the business.
In 2004 Celador had taken legal action on Disney as they had been claimed there was unpaid profits from there screening of the programme in America. In 2010 the company was awarded with £177m from damages failing to receive fair share of the profits.
Operating ModelCelador is a small company that makes films on a project-by-
project basis, contracting free lance staff. A independent and small company like this has many strategies to make money to enable them to produce films.
First the company is set up with a fund to use for there production this is called ‘Initial capitalisation’. If the company decides otherwise they can use ‘Project capitalisation’ this is when companies get finance from those similar sources for a specific project.
Then the company will do deals with other small companies making partnership and co-funding.
The company might also might fund the project by selling it to a distributor before it has been created.
The last thing is licensing where companies will do a deal with a huge production company.
