Greetings! We have big news at the Buddy Program! We are honored to announce that we were awarded the GOLD Badge through the National Quality Mentoring System (NQMS). The Buddy Program is one of only three mentoring organizations in Colorado to receive this award! The NQMS was created by Mentor: The National Mentoring Partnership, which details research-informed and practitioner-approved standards for creating and sustaining quality youth mentoring programs and facilitating impactful mentoring relationships. Through the NQMS, the Buddy Program was rigorously reviewed by an independent third party and as a Gold Partner, was found to have extremely high alignment with existing research and evidence. What does this mean? The Buddy Program's programs and services have rated among the highest of quality in helping youth achieve positive outcomes and impactful mentoring experiences. We are so proud of our entire Buddy Program team - our staff, Board of Directors, and amazing volunteer mentors for their tireless work in achieving and upholding these incredible standards to provide the youth we serve with such excellent programs and services! This work would not be achieved without the amazing team behind it! Thank you for being a part of our team! LEAD (Leadership through Exploration, Action and Discovery)Dream Day Camp

Dream Day Camp was a great success this year with participation higher than ever.We are so grateful for our partnerships with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies,Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club's mountain biking program, Carbondale Arts,Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, and Elk Mountain Expeditions. This group efforthelps our Buddy Program campers to challenge themselves through fun activitiesthroughout the entire valley. Each of our campers bring different strengths and areasfor growth to the group and that's why the array of activities we do is so important! We were able to tie dye t-shirts, go mountain biking, learn about the birds of prey, hike to a high alpine lake, learn about tools and work on trails in Snowmass, andfinish the week with rafting. We are so proud of our campers and are already lookingforward to Dream Day Camp next year!

Outdoor LeadershipOutdoor Leadership is in full swing at our 3 high school locations in Basalt,Carbondale and Rifle. We are excited to be creating positive and trustingrelationships with our students and are getting them ready for their first three-daybackpacking trips starting next week! The students have been learning theimportance of being a leader, and the many different sizes and shapes that can take. They are also learning about Leave No Trace and how to make a positive impact on

MENTEE WAITLIST

Name: Salvador Age: 15 Lives in: Carbondale

Salvador has been involved with the Buddy Program in multiple ways since 2015. Heis an energetic and active youth who participates in our LEAD program, and had aCommunity-based mentor for two years before the mentor moved away. He lovedhis experience so much, he wants to be paired again with another fun-loving mentor. When he was matched with his previous mentor, he enjoyed bowling, hiking, andgoing out to eat, and they still stay in touch due to the strong bond they created, even though they now live far apart. Salvador is up for anything, and especially lovesto snowboard, play soccer, and basketball. Salvador is 15 and could really benefitfrom a mentor who can help guide him through high school and the exciting futurethat lies ahead for him. His goals are to get better grades and to go to college, perhaps to study architecture. To him, having a mentor would mean having fun, getting out of the house, and having someone he could talk to.

John (right) with his Little Buddy, Collin on a hike

As if working 3 jobs and coaching the AHS girl's soccer team isn't enough, John choseto become a mentor with the Buddy Program in 2017 and was matched with hismentee Collin. John brings his infectiously positive energy, his sense of humor andhis innate ability to connect with kids to everything that he does, including hisrelationship with Collin. John describes that when they started as a pair, Collin wasextremely shy, but it didn't take them long to build a comfortable, trustingrelationship allowing Collin to come out of his shell. It turns out that Collin has thesame sarcastic sense of humor as John. Not only is John a committed and supportivementor, John has generously offered 8 scholarships for other Buddy Program youthto participate in the Junior's European Soccer Camps for the past 3 summers. TheBuddy Program is so thankful to John for his generosity with his time, his talents, andhis resources to his mentee and beyond.
