A MESSAGE FROM FR CARL

Dear St Michael Family, Happy Easter! This Sunday, I would like to remem-ber and pray for all our children who will receive their First Holy Communion, and for our teens who will be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Con-firmation. These Sacraments are vital to our life of grace, in our pur-suit of happiness and holiness as followers of Jesus. The three Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation and Eu-charist. Each is meant to strengthen our faith and to forge a deeper rela-tionship with God. Baptism frees us from original sin, Confirmation strengthens our faith and Eucharist allows us to taste the body and blood of eternal life and be remind-ed of Christ’s love and sacrifice. The purpose of these Sacraments is the same: to graft and root us in the source of sanctifying grace to strengthen us as we live out our Christian Faith in our daily lives. How can we live out our Baptismal call, strengthened by the grace of Holy Communion and the gifts of the Holy Spirit? The answer to this question leads us back to our vision and mission of our parish: 1. We Celebrate the Sacraments Attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days faithfully. Go to Confession regular-ly. Visit the Blessed Sacrament fre-quently. Set aside time for daily prayer. 2. We Grow Disciples Evangelize by telling people about Jesus. Participate in works of chari-ty. Be a good example of a disciple by following Jesus’ commands. Take advantage of the resources our par-ish has purchased for you

with FORMED.org and visit our web-site for more faith formation oppor-tunities. 3. We Bring Christ to People Be welcoming and hospitable! In-spire people by being prayerful and loving. Call your friends and family who are away from you and invite them to join our livestream masses, our online rosary or online bible studies. Invite them to volunteer at Community Care or at Mass. In his first General Audience (April 11, 2018) after releasing a major document on holiness in ordinary life, Pope Francis said that “Baptism permits Christ to live in us, and to live united with him, in order to col-laborate in the Church, each accord-ing to his or her own condition, to the transformation of the world.” As we join our newly Baptized, those who will soon receive their First Communion and Confirmed, let us be reminded that the Sacraments of Initiation are not meant to be put inside the closet of our hearts. They are meant to be lived out, to give testimony in our world that Christ indeed is Risen and is alive! El Bau-tismo nos libera del pecado original, la Confirmación fortalece nuestra fe y la Eucaristía nos permite saborear el cuerpo y la sangre de la vida eter-na y nos recuerda el amor y el sacrifi-cio de Cristo. El propósito de estos sacramentos es el mismo: plantarnos y enraizarnos en la fuente de la gra-cia santificante para fortalecernos mientras vivimos nuestra fe cristiana en nuestra vida diaria. ¿Cómo podemos vivir nuestro llamado bautismal, fortalecidos por la gracia de la Sagrada Comunión y los dones del Espíritu Santo? Where did the feast of Divine Mercy come from?

ANSWER:

If you were born well before the year 2000, you know the feast of Divine Mercy has not always been celebrated in the Church. In the early 1900s, a young Polish nun began receiving private revelations. Jesus appeared to her during her times of prayer, speaking a message of mercy and love for the world. She received a set of prayers — the Divine Mercy Chaplet — and the request to have a feast day established to remind the Church of the mercy of God. St. Faustina died in 1938, on the cusp of war and in the midst of one of the most violent centuries in the history of the world. Her story and her diaries began circulating in Poland and beyond. It quick-ly became apparent that this was a holy young women, and the cause for her canonization opened. In the year 2000, she was canonized by the first-ever Polish pope, St. John Paul II. On her canonization day, he established the second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, “a perennial invita-tion to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that mankind with experience in the years to come.”

Si nació mucho antes del año 2000, sabe que la fiesta de la Divina Mis-ericordia no siempre se ha celebrado en la Iglesia. A principios de la década de 1900, una joven monja polaca comenzó a recibir revela-ciones privadas. Jesús se le apareció durante sus momentos de oración, hablándole un mensaje de misericordia y amor por el mundo. Recibió una serie de oraciones, la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia, y la solicitud de establecer un día festivo para recordar a la Iglesia la mis-ericordia de Dios.
