100 years of better living

Electrolux was founded in 1919 by Swedish entrepreneur and salesman Axel Wenner-Gren.

Wenner-Gren had worked stubbornly since 1908 to realize a vision: making vacuum cleaners lighter and easier to use. “Every home, an Electrolux home” was his motto.

Wenner-Gren’s idea, and an unusual knack for sales and marketing, planted the seeds of what is today one of the world’s leading appliance companies.

The beginning – a vision of a vacuum cleaner

The first big hit… The Model V, with runners to make it mobile, was Electrolux real breakthrough product. It was launched in 1921.

Focusing on wellbeing in the home In the 1920s and 30s, most consumers were aware of the benefits of hygiene and sanitation. Electrolux based its communications and marketing strategies on this insight.

Rapid growth around the world With its hugely successful line of vacuum cleaners and refrigerators, Electrolux rapidly developed into a global company, with sales and manufacturing across the world.
