Helsinki, 12 septiembre 2019.- La comunidad mexicana en Finlandia y Estonia se reunió en Helsinki para conmemorar el 209 Aniversario del inicio de la Independencia de nuestro país. El acto cívico, organizado por la Embajada de México, se llevó a cabo en la Cripta de la Catedral Luterana de Helsinki con la asistencia de más de 200 ciudadanos mexicanos con sus familias.Ante la comunidad mexicana, el Embajador Ernesto Céspedes dio el tradicional “Grito de Dolores” y acto seguido se entonó el himno nacional.Los miembros de la asociación cultural “Askelten Palo / Pasos de Fuego” deleitaron al público con bailes regionales de Oaxaca, Jalisco y Veracruz, así como con presentaciones de Son Jarocho, en vivo.Al final del evento se llevó a cabo una rifa con obsequios y cortesías de la Federación Mexicana de Asociaciones Turísticas (FEMATUR), la tortillería “La Familia” y la productora de gorras artesanales mexicanas “Apoteosis”. Oriundo de la Ciudad de México, Claudio Rico –Remix1, como suele ser conocido– estudió diseño gráfico en la Univer-sidad Autónoma M e t r o p o l i t a n a . Aparte de la Ciudad de México, ha pintado murales en ciudades como Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Nueva York, Boston y Austin. Fue invitado a realizar un mural en Finlan-dia después de que los organizadores de Street Art Vantaa, un proyecto finlandés de arte urbano, conocieron sus obras a través de las redes sociales. “Estaba pintando en Coyoacán y de repente se acercó un chico güero y alto que me quería contratar para realizar un mural. Y de alguna cosa me “etiquetó” y los de Street Art Vantaa lo vieron. Resultó que él es amigo de uno de los organizadores,” cuenta Claudio.El mural que realizó en Vantaa representa a un jaguar, un animal muy característico del sureste de México. “Quería representar a un animal mexicano “poderoso”, algo que fuera muy mexicano. El jaguar también representa esa energía positiva que podemos tener los mexica-nos.”Los animales, al igual que los motivos prehispánicos, son elementos muy típicos en sus obras.“Siento que los animales representan el lado del subconsciente de las personas. Hay mitologías prehispánicas que dicen que todos tenemos un animal que es nuestro guía.”Como artista, Claudio tiene un claro objeti-vo: “Quiero inspirar a otros. Desde el verano pasado, dos nuevos murales embellecen la ciudad de Vantaa que forma parte del área metropolitana de la capital finlande-sa. Fueron realizados por los artistas mexicanos Claudio Rico (Remix1) y Ane Álvarez, quienes visitaron este país por invitación de la iniciativa finlandesa Street Art Vantaa.Two new mural paintings embellish the city of Vantaa since last summer. This Finnish city is part of the metro-politan area of Helsinki, the country’s capital city. The paintings were produced by Mexican artists Claudio Rico (Remix1) and Ane Álvarez, who visited Finland at the invitation of the Finnish initiative Street Art Vantaa.

Street Art Vantaa es un proyecto de arte urbano iniciado en 2013 que busca dar color a la vida de los habit-antes de la ciudad de Vantaa, Finlan-dia, a través de murales y talleres de arte urbano. Con 228 mil habitantes, Vantaa es la 4ª ciudad más grande de Finlandia. La mayoría de los viajeros que visitan Finlandia pasan por Vantaa, ya que allí se encuentra el principal aeropuerto de este país.Street Art Vantaa is the name of a project on urban art which was introduced in 2013 and seeks to provide color to the lives of the people of Vantaa, Finland, through urban art murals and workshops. Vantaa is the fourth biggest city in Finland with 228 thousand residents. Most of the travelers coming to Finland have at least passed through Vantaa, since it’s the city where the country’s main airport is located.

He was invited to produce a mural painting in Finland when the organizers of Street Art Vantaa, a Finnish project of urban art, got to know his work though social media. “I was painting in Coyoacán and all of a sudden a blond and tall boy came to me and said he wanted to recruit me for a mural. For some reason, he tagged me and those in Street Art Vantaa happened to see it. It turned out that this person is friends with one of the organizers”, says Claudio. The mural he produced in Vantaa repre-sents a jaguar, a very distinguished animal creature in Southeast Mexico. “I wanted to represent a powerful Mexican animal, something that would be very Mexican. The jaguar also represents the positive energy that we Mexicans can own”. As well as pre-Colombian motifs, animals are very usual elements in his work. “I feel that animals represent people’s subcon-scious side. There are pre-Columbian mythologies, according to which we all have an animal that acts as our guide”. Claudio has a clear goal as an artist: “I want to be an inspiration for others. The thing I like the most is to know that I can help other people to inspire”.

Los colores de México llegan a Finlandia | The colours of Mexico reach Finland

Aneliz Álvarez, de 29 años y residente en Cancún, empezó su carrera como artista profesional en 2015, después de estudiar Artes Plásticas y Diseño de la Moda en Puebla y la Ciudad de México. Dentro de México, su obra mural puede ser apreciada en Cancún, Cozumel, Tulum y Monterrey. En el extranjero, ha pintado murales en Alemania, Austria, España, Finlandia y, próxima-mente, en Italia.“Comencé este viaje porque quería salir a dejar un poco de mí en otros países y llenarme de cultura y experiencias distintas a la mía. Llevar un poco de México a otros sitios y exaltar la cultura del lugar a donde voy,” cuenta Ane.En el pasado mes de agosto, llegó a Finlandia para realizar un mural en Vantaa. “Tenía la idea de salir de México y pintar en países que contrastarán con lo que conozco. Sabía que Finlandia era un país muy diferente a México; que el clima, la comida y las costumbres eran distintas. Escribí a Street Art Vantaa, me presenté con ellos y fue así que me invitaron a formar parte del proyecto.”

El mural que pintó está inspirado en dos grandes estrellas del cine finlandés de los años 40: Ansa Ikonen y Tauno Palo. Se realizó en una residencia para personas de la tercera edad que se encuentra frente a un parque infantil. “Quería hacer una fusión entre la diversión y el color y los recuerdos clásicos para la gente mayor que habita la residencia. Es importante que se sientan identificados, que recuerden los momentos que disfru-taron y generar un tema de conversación y eso fue justo lo que se logró.”Para Ane el arte es una herramienta para crear conciencia.

“Ya sea mural o lienzos, mi obra siempre va acompaña-da de una historia detrás, una investigación o reflexión que te invitan a despertar esa conciencia que nos hace mejores seres humanos.”

Aneliz Álvarez, 29 years-old and living in Cancun, began her career as a professional artist in 2015, after finishing Plastic Arts and Fashion Design studies in Puebla and Mexico City. Her mural work

can be seen in the Mexican cities of Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum and Monterrey. She has also produced mural paintings abroad in places such as Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland and soon in Italy. “I began this journey because I wanted to leave and give a bit of myself in other coun-

tries. I wanted to fill myself of cultures and experiences different from my own. I wanted to bring a bit of Mexico to other places and praise the culture of the place I’m visiting”, says Ane. Last August, she arrived in Finland to make a mural painting in Vantaa. “I had the idea of leaving Mexico and painting in countries that are a contrast to what I know. I knew that Finland was a very different country from Mexico; that the climate, food and traditions were different. I wrote to Street Art Vantaa, I introduced myself and that’s how I was invited to be part of the project”. The inspiration for the mural painting came from two well-known Finnish film-stars from the 40s: Ansa Ikonen and Tauno Palo. The mural was painted on an elderly care home, opposite a children’s playground area. “I wanted to create a fusion between diversion and color, as well as classical memories for the elderly people living in the care home. It’s important that they feel identified, that they recall the great moments they enjoyed and to create a topic of conversation, and that’s exactly what was achieved”. Ane believes art is a tool to that can raise awareness. “No matter if it is a mural painting or a canvas, beyond my work there’s always a story, research or reflection that invites you to raise that awareness that helps us be better human beings”.

Helsinki, 10 julio 2019.- El mayor centro cultural de Finlandia, Kaapelitehdas (la Fábrica del Cable), fue sede del Festival Internacional de Pintura en Acuarela del 9 al 14 de julio. El evento fue organizado por la Asociación Internacional de Pintura en Acuarela de Finlandia (conocido como IWS Finland, por sus siglas en inglés) en torno a tres temas: naturaleza, fuerza y belleza. El festival presentó más de 300 pinturas de artistas procedentes de más de 40 países, entre ellos México. Destacaron las pinturas de tres pintores mexicanos: Sol Camacho Morfin (Do the Sunflowers Cry?), Ramón Larrauri (Isla Cangrejos) y Tere Lojero (Tialban Woods). El programa del festival incluyó talleres de acuarela impartidos por pintores internacionales.

Helsinki, 30 julio 2019.- Representantes de la Embajada de México en Finlandia y la nueva Embajadora de Finlandia en México, Päivi Pohjanheimo, acompañaron en Helsinki a la artista finlandesa Katariina Gurthwert durante la inauguración de la exhibición “Talaveritas”, inspirada en la cerámica talavera poblana, expuesta al público del 31 de julio al 18 de agosto de 2019 en la Galería Katariina. La clausura de la exhibición coincidió en el tiempo con la tradicional Noche de las Artes de la capital finlandesa, evento que desde su creación en 1989 consigue transformar la ciudad nórdica anualmente en un escenario de cientos de expresiones culturales. Helsinki, July 30th, 2019.- Representatives from the Mexican Embassy in Finland and the new Finnish Ambassador to Mexico, Mrs. Päivi Pohjanheimo, accompanied Finnish artist Katariina Gurthwert in the opening event of her exhibition “Talaveri-tas”, inspired by the Mexican talavera poblana pottery. The pottery was exhibited in Helsinki from July 31st to August 18th 2019, at Galleria Katariina. The closing of the exhibition took place in the traditional Night of Arts in the Finnish capital city, an event that, since first celebrated in 1989, happens to transform the Nordic city in a stage of hundreds of cultural expressions every year.

Helsinki, July 10th, 2019.- The largest cultural center in Finland, Kaapelitehdas, (Cable Factory) hosted the International Watercolor Painting Festival from July 9th-14th. The event was organized by the International Watercolor Society in Finland (IWS Finland) around three topics: nature, strength and beauty. Helsinki, julio 2019.- Varios deportistas mexicanos visitaron las oficinas de la Embajada con motivo de su visita a Finlandia para participar en la décimo quinta edición del Campeonato Mundial de Maxibaloncesto (Espoo FIMBA 2019), celebrada del 25 de julio al 4 de agosto en la ciudad finlandesa de Espoo. El campeonato realzó la posición de México en esta disciplina con el oro de la Selección Mexicana Femenil (categoría 65+). Participaron en el campeonato más de 10 equipos mexicanos. Igualmente, la Embajada conoció personalmente a integrantes de varios equipos mexicanos de futbol juvenil, quienes participaron en el torneo Helsinki Cup 2019, mismo que se llevó a cabo en la capital finlandesa del 8 al 13 de julio con la participación de más de 20 mil jugadores

de 20 países. Helsinki, 21 septiembre 2019.- Papel maché, hojalata, alebrijes, talavera... México es conocido por sus hermosas y coloridas artesanías. Hace algunos años, el talento de nuestros artesanos llamó la atención de los diseñadores Aamu Song (coreana) y Johan Olin (finlandés), quienes desde 2007 realizan viajes para conocer las tradiciones artesanales en diferentes partes del mundo. Los resultados de estos viajes se presentaron este año en la exhibición "Secret Universe" en el prestigioso Museo del Diseño de Helsinki, la cual culminó el 21 de septiembre con la visita de dos maestros artesanos mexicanos.Durante el "Día Sagrado de México", los maestros artesanos Tomás Ricardo Santiago Pacheco (Oaxaca) y Pedro Hernández Cruz (San Miguel de Allende) realizaron demostraciones de su trabajo que captaron la atención de más de 1,300 visitantes.Mientras el maestro Tomás Pacheco elaboraba sus artesanías de hojalatería a golpe de cincel, el renombrado violinista finlandés Pekka Kuusisto y el artista de sonidos Tuomas Toivonen crearon melodías a partir de los agudos sonidos del cincel sobre la hojalata, distorsionándolos y musicalizándolos, para el deleite de los espectadores.Por su parte, el maestro Pedro Hernández asombró al público presente con una cadena de producción de muñecas de papel maché, en la que mostró la técnica de empapelado, decorado y armado de las piezas. Niños de varias nacionalidades no perdían de vista al artesano mexicano, quien con facilidad y rapidez deleitó al público, que apreciaba su técnica de trabajo ancestral.El “Día Sagrado de México” incluyó asimismo una presentación de cantos infantiles mexicanos por parte de menores de la guardería hispanohablante “La Casita”, así como una piñata que se rompió entre los numerosos niños asistentes.

Helsinki, September 21st, 2019.- Papier-mâché, tinplates, fantastical creatures known as alebrijes, Talavera pottery… Mexico is known for its beautiful and colorful craftwork. Some years ago, the talent of Mexican artisans drew the atten-tion of designers Aamu Song (Korea) and Johan Olin (Finland), who travel since 2007 looking to be acquainted with handmade traditions from different parts of the world. The results of those journeys were present-ed this year in the exhibition “Secret Universe,” at the prestigious Design Museum in Helsinki. The exhibition concluded on September 21st with the visit of two Mexican craftmasters.On the “Sacred Day of Mexico”, artisans Tomás Ricardo Santiago Pacheco (Oaxaca) and Pedro Hernández Cruz (San Miguel de Allende) drew the attention of more than 1,300 visitors by demonstrating their skills. While master Tomás Santiago made hand-

icrafts out of tinplate with a chisel, Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto and sound artist Tuomas Toivonen created melodies from the sounds of the chisel against the tinplate, twisting and musicalizing them to the delight of the audience. Master Pedro Hernández surprised the audience with a chain production of dolls made out of papier-mâché. He showed techniques for wrapping, embellishing and assembling the pieces. Children of differ-ent nationalities followed closely the demonstration of the Mexican artisan, who managed to delight the audience with his skills at this ancestral working technique. The program for the “Sacred Day of Mexico” included traditional Mexican children´s songs by a group of infants from the Span-ish speaking nursery school “La Casita”, as well as a traditional piñata, broken by the numerous children attending the event.

Helsinki, 3 agosto 2019.- Sin duda, la gastronomía es uno de los elementos más importantes de la cultura mexicana. En la muestra gastronómica y taller de cocina “Colors of Mexico”, organizado en la ciudad de Tartu por la Embajada, en conjunto con el Capítulo Estonia de la Red Global MX y el restaurante “Casa México”, el público estonio tuvo la oportunidad de familiarizarse con algunas recetas típicas de nuestro país.El taller fue impartido por la Chef mexicana Raquel Sánchez Montalvo, quien dio a conocer a los asistentes los principales ingredientes culinarios mexicanos y las técnicas de preparación de guacamole, tacos, salsas y guisados.Con mucho entusiasmo, el público acordó reunirse en el futuro para continuar compartiendo el gusto por la gastronomía mexicana.

In the culinary exhibition and workshop “Colors of Mexico”, which was organized in the city of Tartu by the Embassy of Mexico in Finland, together with the Estonian Chapter of the Global Network MX and Restaurant Casa Mexico, the Estonian audience had the opportunity to be acquainted with traditional Mexican recipes. The Aztecs are often regarded as fierce warriors, but they also developed a rich poetic tradition that explores many universal themes, such as beauty, friendship and death.

University Lecturer Pekka Valtonen will discuss the Aztec poetry and culture in a public lecture organised by the Embassy of Mexico in Finland and the Department of Area and Cultural Studies of the University of Helsinki.

The event is organised in tribute to Mexican anthropologist and historian Miguel León-Portilla, one of the most reputable authorities on Aztec culture and literature, who sadly passed away on October 1st, 2019.

México, 19 agosto 2019.- En una ceremonia celebrada en Palacio Nacional, la Embajadora de Finlandia en México, Päivi Pohjanheimo, quien asumió la titularidad de la representación diplomática finlandesa en junio pasado, presentó sus Cartas Credenciales al Presidente Andrés Manual López Obrador.En un tuit publicado después de la ceremonia, la Embajadora Pohjanheimo destacó el “gran potencial de profundizar aún más las relaciones bilaterales entre nuestros países.” Desde la Embajada de México en Finlandia, le deseamos mucho éxito en su nueva función.Mexico City, August 19th, 2019.- At a ceremony held at the National Palace, the Ambassador of Finland in Mexico, Päivi Pohjanheimo, who assumed as head of the Finnish diplomatic representation in June, presented her Credentials to President Andrés Manual López Obrador.In a tweet published after the ceremony, Ambassador Pohjanheimo underlined the “great potential to further develop bilateral relations between the two countries.” From the Embassy of Mexico in Finland we wish Ambassador Pohjanheimo great success in her new duty.
