“Living Our Faith in Jesus Christ Through Acceptance, Service and Love.”

We’re in our second of month using the new format for our newsletter. Just a reminder, the “Newsflash” will provide you with some information for the month: the treasurer’s report, group studies, worship assistants and the calendar. Throughout the month, you will receive weekly email “editions”, which will be identified as follows:

Christian Life is for Everyone! (C-LIFE)—Provides this month’s studies and events

Get Involved Edition—Updates you on the missions of this church, including Heavenly Attic, Faith in Action, Social Justice Advocates, Teen Faith in Action, Tutoring/Literacy and more!

Get Connected—Highlights upcoming events, as well as special items of interest that connect us to the world and each other.

Joys and Concerns—Offers reminders for us to share in the joys and concerns of this congregation: new members, those in service to our country, shut-ins, those who are ill or infirmed, and those who have lost loved ones.

We sent these out during August and will continue this during September. If you did not see them in your email, check your spam. We do offer printed copies of these issues, which are available in the Narthex, or on request in the Church Office. While we will not be printing birth-days and anniversaries, these will continue to be shown in our weekly bulletin and in the rolling announcements. A list of the monthly birthdays, anniversaries and shut-ins can always be re-quested in the Church Office. As we are constantly updating our calendar, you will always find the most current copy of our Church Calendar on the website at algonquinucc.org.

**Over 100 years ago, Herman Melville wrote, “Our country was settled by ‘the people of all nations. All nations may claim her for their own. You cannot spill a drop of American blood, without spilling the blood of the whole world.” He goes on to say – Americans are not ‘a separate tribe’. The first Americans were the Native Americans. If we are to understand who we are, we need to know who they were, who they are today, and how their history reflects upon everyone of else. Earlier this summer, we got an introduction to the history of the Native Americans and our history. Now we delve deeper into this history. Join us either on Sundays at 9am or Tuesdays at 4:30 pm in September and October for this eye-opening and poignant look at ourselves, as we study what one Harvard historian named “The Barbarous Years” Tuesdays with the Pastor— Weekly on Tuesdays, 4:30 pm—no meeting 9/24 or 10/1

Monday Morning Bible Study—Dust of the Rabbi During his ministry in Israel, Jesus called and trained disciples; his talmidim. Their job would eventually be to bring the message of redemption to all the nations, Jew and Gentile. What would happen when they began to make disciples of their own and the gospel began to spread to a Greek and Roman world, two cultures completely unfamiliar with the God of the Jews? Follow the rabbi through Israel and Turkey as you explore what it meant to be the message of Jesus to all nations. September 16, 10:00 am. Women’s Fellowship Bible Study—Now meeting weekly! 10 am on Wednesdays A Woman God’s Spirit Can Guide, by Alice Mathews. In this study, we will examine the lives of Dorcas, Lydia, Phoebe, and other women in the New Testa-ment. In their stories you will see how the Holy Spirit led each one in various ways based on her abilities and gifts. You will reflect on what God has called you to do, as you dig deep into the lives of these women who committed their gifts and tal-ents to the Lord. Discover how God’s Spirit can work in your own life to help you make wise choices and accomplish His will. Weekly on Wednesdays, 10:00 am (4th Wednesday each month is Game Day, 9/25) Bible and Brew— The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto. Mitch Albom creates a magical world through his love of music in this remarkable novel about the power of talent to change our lives. His is the epic story of Frankie Presto—the greatest guitar player who ever lived—and the six lives he changed with his six magical blue strings. Frankie is introduced to us at his funeral, and the story is told to us by Music itself. Thursday, September 12, 6:30 pm Port Edward.

Movies with Meaning! - Ladies in Lavender assembles those two great Dames, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, and sends them off to play sisters sharing a cozy little cottage on the Cornwall coast. This is an inspiration. What they do there is a disappointment. Their days are spent gardening and having tea, their evenings knitting and the wireless, until one dark and story might, a strange young man is washed up on their shore. Come join the fun. Saturday, September 14, 1:00 pm.
