A Newsletter for Members and Friends of

Wallingford Community Senior Center OCTOBER, NOVEMBER,

DECEMBER 2019

Wallingford Community Senior Center was founded in November of 1979 and has been serving north Seattle

seniors ever since. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary with a party for our members and participants on

Friday, November 22 following the Thanksgiving Friendship Luncheon and the Annual Membership Meeting—

we hope you will join us! See the back page for details. We are also launching a “40 Years of Caring”

campaign to raise $40,000 to celebrate and support the exciting work we are doing—like expanding lunch to

5 days per week! Please contribute if you can and encourage your friends and family to do so as well. For 40

years, through challenges, changes, and transitions, WCSC’s devotion to welcoming, connecting, and support-

ing older adults has remained steady, and will continue to do so.

In addition to the organization’s ruby anniversary, this fall ushers in opportunities in the form of transitions,

support, and partnerships. Claire Petersky will be moving on to a new position after serving as WCSC’s

Executive Director for the past 3 years. We are sad to see her go, but please join us in thanking her for her

many accomplishments and wishing her well in her next chapter! Longtime WCSC employee Ashley Larson

will be stepping in as Acting Executive Director. See page 3 for a farewell message from Claire.

We are pleased to announce that WCSC has received King County funding through the Veterans, Seniors,

and Human Services Levy as part of a North Seattle Hub along with Lake City-Northgate Senior Center

Project and United Indians of All Tribes Foundation’s

Native Elders Program. We can’t wait to share

expertise, resources, and strategies with

our new partners to improve our

collective programs, services,

outreach, and advocacy.

We are excited to explore these

new opportunities, celebrate 40 years of serving north

Seattle’s seniors, and keep

up our momentum,

continuing to expand our

impact in the future.

Here’s to 40 more!

Best,

resistance (weights), body weight,

and mat work, which will help us

in tasks of daily living. Warming

up, stretching, and cooling

down will be an integral

part of class. Modifications

can be accommodated as

needed. With Andy Hess,

Certified Personal Trainer.
