Celebrating Weekly Liturgy at Home Date: July 5 th The Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time Title: Jesus Reveals Mysteries of God’s Kingdom Focus: Jesus is gentle and humble of heart – He gives us refreshment and rest; to be childlike in our openness to the Kingdom of God. Context: Today’s Gospel reveals Jesus’ kindness in welcoming all and His goodness in offering Himself to the poor as the source of rest and peace. People carry many burdens in life, but the heaviest is the weight of sin. Jesus’ message and cure for this heavy burden is to come to him and rest. By placing God first in our lives and bringing everything to Him in prayer, we can grow in our faith and knowledge. Catechism Reference: The Kingdom of God is known only through revelation from Jesus Christ, the Son of God. While demands of living in accord with Christ’s teachings in ordinary life may seem burdensome, doing so helps bring about His Kingdom of justice and peace. (CCC 787, 2046) Did You Know? . . . that Psalm 145, which we hear a section from this Sunday, was written as an acrostic poem? Each line of the psalm begins with a different, successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Book of Psalms contains text that was intended to be set to music, and so it is sometimes more poetic in nature than the more narrative parts of the Bible. Prayer: Lord our God, just as the rain comes down to water the earth and make it fruitful, so you send forth your word to do your will in the world. May this wisdom from heaven take root in our hearts and bear fruit in holy words and loving deeds. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Gospel Acclamation: Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heavens and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom. Gospel: Matthew 11:25 - 30

Craft/PrayerActivityWriteaprayerReadtheprayer Light in the darkest times Dear God, You understand the pain of loss, May we hold in our hearts all those whose families or friends have died. You help us in times of fear, May we help each other even as we keep apart. You move our hearts to share, May we share what we have with those in need. God of life, We thank you for the signs of your light in the middle of darkness; May we be signs of your compassion in the heart of your world. Amen © Linda Jones | CAFOD Write a prayer like this one for the times when they are finding life hard, and for all those members of our global family who are struggling in some way.
