February 2015 Dear Willington Neighbor:
P.O. Box 194; Willington, CT 06279
As we begin our 20th year with this launch of our 2015 annual appeal, we’d like to thank you for your continuing support over these past 19 years. Since 1995, Willington residents, businesses, and civic organizations have shown the importance of recognizing student excellence by donating time, services, and funds. As just one example, Willington groups made our Silent Auction at the Flea Market a huge success. So thank you.
Together, we’ve accomplished much and have awarded over $215,000 to 319 Willington high
school graduates. This year we are especially excited to have received a Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation grant, which will allow us to match up to 10 donations of $500 or more.
This grant will help us build on our record from 2014, when the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars (WSFDFS) was able to provide 16 scholarships totaling $19,000. Naturally, it’s the recipients who express their gratitude best:
“You have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus on the most important aspect of school, learning. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”
“The work that you all do each and every day means so much to me and has made me want to continue to strive for greater success. I will certainly look for volunteering options with Scholarship America when I am older. People like all of you inspire me to reach greater success, so I cannot thank you enough.”
As you probably know, the WSFDFS determines merit awards based solely on academic data, without knowledge of the applicants’ names. Our affiliation with Scholarship America lets us increase outreach to every Willington student through our website (Willington.DollarsforScholars.org).
By using it, students can be automatically matched to potential scholarships from Scholarship America's partners across the nation.
And all Willington students and their parents can access useful news about college life, financial planning, volunteer and internship opportunities, and resources to help them take advantage of everything that Scholarship America has to offer. So if you know Willington residents who are graduating from high school this year, let them know to sign up at our website.
And most importantly, please help us continue to help our Willington students by contributing whatever you can to the 2015 Willington Scholarship Foundation Drive. To do so, just clip the remittance form inside and send it along with your tax-deductible contribution to:
Willington Scholarship Foundation; P.0. Box 194; Willington, CT, 06279.
On behalf of all the Directors, sincerely,
David Gabree, Chair Chopeta Lyons, Vice-Chair

History of Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars® In 1995, the Willington PTA Scholarship Foundation was formed as an affiliate of the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America™. In 1996, we
reorganized as the Willington Scholarship Foundation, still a CSFA affiliate, and adopted bylaws in conformance with CSFA’s Dollars for Scholars program. All donations go to scholarships, with less than 7% spent on mailing, non-profit fees, and insurance.
Endowments: In addition to the general funds distributed each year, WSFDSF maintains endowments which are invested and provide a percentage of returns for the named awards:
The Stafford Lions Club Thomas Borovicka Memorial Endowment; the Willington Scholarship Foundation Endowment; and the Willington PTA Endowment, which includes funds honoring Aldona Downing, Norman Garrett, Robert McGray, and Michael McKee.
Anyone can establish an endowment with WSFDFS, with the terms and award criteria controlled by written agreement. For more information, contact us at P.O. Box 194, Willington, CT 06279 or through our website:
