CENTRAL HEIGHTS ORCHESTRA By connor rudolph and cameron buettner The Central Heights Orchestra is a class made up of grades 6-12. They meet every Monday and Friday after school, from 3:15 to 4:30. You can play the Violin, Viola, Cello, or the Bass. To join you just need an instrument, which you can buy/rent with help from one of the teachers. You can order an instrument from Lisle Violin Shop, and they can deliver it to the school. You don’t need any experience to join, since they have a wonderful beginner orchestra. Mr. Mitchell, the director at the time, said “The beginner program is for anyone who wants to play an instrument, or to have an after-school activity. His assistant, Mrs. Elder added, ”We teach them the basics of music from the ground-up.” The students perform near the end of each semester, and going to watch would be a great way to support them! Dress CodeBy Adisan Burton & Ellie Davis

All of this information can be found in the Central Heights Handbook, pages 26-27.

Dress Code is a crucial part of every school’s rulebook. This year, some things that have been allowed in the past are prohibited. Here are some tips

of what not to wear.

1. Leggings may not be worn without appropriate length shorts or skirts. Shirts over leggings must be at least three inches above the bended knee.2. Girls cannot wear tank tops unless they are three inches at the shoulder. Boys are not aloud to wear cut off sleeves at all.3. No low-cut shirts (crop tops) exposing the midriff. If you can’t tuck it in, it is not allowed.4. No facial hair, and hair cannot be dyed (pink, green, blue, etc.) unless it is a natural color (brown, blond, etc.) 5. Must have appropriate length shorts (at least three inches above the bended knee.)6. No see through material.7. For jeans you may not have any holes above the knee unless they are patched up where they are not revealing any skin.8. Earrings may not be worn by guys. Any other piercings on the body by any student may not be worn.9. There may not be any inappropriate sayings, pictures, or words on shirts.10. Your pants must be worn at the natural waistline. (No sagging)11. You’re not allowed to wear hats, bandanas, or any distracting head wear. 12. No revealing shirts, especially for girls.13. You are not allowed to wear to athletic shorts outside of the athletic gym. 14. No sunback dresses without jackets or a cardigan.15. No pajama bottoms may be worn.16. No sport shorts, unless they are an appropriate length (basketball shorts.) No spandex, boxer shorts, etc.17. No extreme necklines, and shirts may not be unbuttoned passed the second button.

Grooming1. This is definitely one of the most important things you can do every day. BRUSH YOUR TEETH!!!! No one wants to smell your nasty breath.2. Dyed hair is prohibited unless it is a natural color (blonde, brown, etc.) 3. Hairstyles or designs must be kept neat and trim so they do not cause any distractions. No mohawks, spikes, or cornrows. 4. You are expected to follow the school dress code even on field trips.

Moving up to Middle School

By: Grace Rodriguez

Moving from the elementary up to the middle school can be a very big change. Everyone has a different point of view when it comes to moving up the hill. I got together with a group of incoming sixth graders and got their opinions on moving to the middle school. Keelan Splann and Hailey Johnson are two people that said P.E. is their favorite part of middle school. Although Madi Best, David Coleman, and Madalyn Fuller stated that P.E is something they miss about the elementary. Most 6th graders are familiar with Central Heights, with most of them moving to the school in first grade or kindergarten, which probably made the transition easier. Although some people came to Central Heights later in the school years. For example, Justin Dunbar moved here this year. He said that the thing he is most excited for in middle school is the weight room in the field house. Most incoming students are most excited to play sports. Madalyn Fuller and David Coleman are are both planning on playing basketball in the upcoming years.
