NATIONAL JUNIOR ART HONOR SOCIETY

Description: The NJAHS programs are open to students in all grades for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing students who have shown an outstanding ability and keen interest in visual art. One of the most commonly noted bene-fits is the peer recognition and leadership growth opportunities that students gain by their involvement. Stu-dents benefit from valuable experiences in creating art, developing a personal portfolio and participation in community service. Through their work, the value of the arts and the school curriculum is highlighted. Creative thinking is the core of 21st-century learning and National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) magnifies the inno-vation, skills, and scholarship that our art program brings to the students, school, and community of CMS.

Description: This international club is responsible for advocating personal friendships between children of all abilities.
Activities included are holiday party gift exchange, buddy picnic, buddy bowling, and an ice cream social.

BOCCE AND BOWLING CLUB (FALL)

Description: Students participate in two individual sports: bocce and bowling. Weather permitting Bocce Club
meets outside for our matches. Bowling Club will meet in the Aux. Gym.

DANCE COMPANY

Description: The CMS Dance Company is composed of 20 dancers. Auditions are held in September. We participate in
the Anne Arundel County Dance Festival and have several other engagements which include performing at the South River High School Winter and Spring Concerts.

Description: Teaching students to sing, dance, and perform before an audience. As a culminating activity the students

CERCLE FRANÇAIS
(French Club)

Description: This club is open to 8th grade French students by contract only. Officer leadership positions are
available. The goal is to promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for the French
language and culture both globally and within the Central Middle community. Activities include (but
are not limited to) National French Week awareness, cultural holiday celebrations, crafts, food, movies,
sports, dances, theatre/restaurant field trip(s), and an educational materials exchange with Châteaucoin Middle School in Baugé, France. Live Strong! Live French!

Description: Central Middle School’s NJHS recognizes outstanding middle school students who have demonstrated excellence
in the area of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship for NJHS. Our honor society not only
recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involve-
ment in school activities and community service. Membership in NJHS is by invitation and application only,
which is offered in the Spring to our qualified 7th grade students.

AGRI-STEAM Club

Agri-STEAM is a club for anyone interested in how technology and science are trying to keep up with feeding our rapidly growing population. It explores the agriculture revolution and then starts down the current and future STEM Career Pathway, which is one of the fastest growing college and career paths. Try your hand at science experiments that will help cultivate sustainable farming on Earth and future pro-posed space colonies. Work with equipment, such as drones and farm bots, that have redefined farm equipment in the age of technology.

Description: Teams participate in annual challenge issued by F.I.R.S.T. research projects, robot programming and strategies to complete tasks. Students will also build robots & accessory parts to complete challenges and

SEAPearch CLUB (STEM CLUB)

Description: As part of the club, students will have the opportunity to be engaged in various STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives. In conjunction with the Office of Naval Research initiative, students will be introduced to the wonders of underwater robotics called SeaPerch. This club will be limited to 15 stu-dents.

Description: Students will experience the different cultures of Spanish speaking countries. Activities include but are not limited to cooking, crafts, sports, music, movies, dancing, singing and cultural holiday celebrations. For our philanthropic project last year we sponsored a llama for a Bolivian family. We also plan Spanish week activities for the CMS Community. See Mrs. DiGuiseppe for a contract!

(SGA)

Description: This club promotes leadership skills in our students. Officer leadership positions are available. Activities
include planning fundraisers and dances, as well as, organizing the school spirit week. In addition,
students can participate in the county’s SGA as well.

TSA Engineering Club (STEM Club)

Description: Are you interested in designing and building things, or maybe you are interested in using CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) to draw things, or maybe you like to tackle engineering challenges. Then the TSA Engineering club is for you! Students will work in small groups based on their inter -ests to tackle a social challenge of their choice (http://tsaweb.org/Middle-School-Competitions) by working with Mr. King to complete the challenge and prepare for the state-wide competition in the spring.

Description: Students will produce the school yearbook for 2018-2019. The activities include photography, writing, and production of the yearbook. This club is deadline-driven. Students must plan to attend every yearbook club
meeting. Students will also be required to work on the yearbook outside of school.

24 GAME CLUB
Day: Thursdays
Time: 3:10pm –4:05 pm

Description: Students come play the many versions of this exciting Math game. Whether you are new to the 24 Game or an experienced tournament player you will extend your math computation skills as you get to know other great students. Students who so choose will also pre-pare for and compete in the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8) that takes place in November. As many as 16 students may represent Central MS in the District-Wide 24 Game Tournament in the Spring.

Description: On a rotating schedule, members will professionally deliver the daily
news and announcements for CMS each morning.

Bio Medical Technology Student Association (TSA/STEM) Club

Description: What are the top Bio Medical Technology issues facing doctors and patients today? Bio Medical TSA Club has competitions that challenge students to conduct research on a contemporary biotechnology or medical technology issue of their choosing, document their research, and create a display or prototype. Student teams will work in small groups to tackle a given Bio Technology challenge of their choice (http://tsaweb.org/Middle-School- Competitions) by working with the teacher in that field to complete the challenge and prepare for the state-wide c competition in the Spring.

Description: Are you a History Nut? Then the History Club
is the place to be! We will discuss a variety of historical topics as
well as current events. Also we encourage students to partici-
pate in social competitions such as National History Day, Na-
tional History Bee, and National History Bowl. The goal is to
help students gain an understanding of the world we live in and
learn valuable reading, writing, speaking and social skills.

Description: Photography Club is a supplementary club to the Yearbook Club in which students will take pictures before, during, and after school and school events. Description: The Cobra Chess Club is open to all CMS students. Chess is one of the oldest and most widely played games in the world. Chess club is a great way for students to learn more about chess about improve their strategic and creative thinking, problem solving, sportsmanship, and more. There is an opportunity to participate in winter and spring tournaments. Come on and join us!

STEM Club

Description: The STEM club will provide ex-periences that utilize Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to inspire creative, critical and analytical thinking in students. Students will collaboratively and individually challenge themselves by designing, and building a variety of projects. Past projects included model rockets (that flew to 200+ feet), designing an electrical circuit, sail cars, motorized cars, catapults, and LED jar light.

Environmental & Sustainability STEM Club

The purpose of the club is to create awareness of environmental issues, such as protec-tion, conservation, preservation, and restoration, with an emphasis on educating and empowering students. Students who are interested in the environment and have en-thusiasm for nature are encouraged to join. Our goal is to keep the status of our school as "green", and we will be doing projects in and around the school to meet our goal.
