Assessment Findings:
Seventeen students successfully completed the Program (71% or greater in all course work) and graduated in May 2016.
Fifteen of the May 2016 graduates have successfully passed the VTNE.
Analysis and Interpretation of Assessment Findings:
Data collected from the VTNE results included seventeen first time test takers; of which fifteen passed the VTNE, and two failed the exam.
As applied to the student learning outcomes surgical nursing, laboratory procedures, and imaging VTNE scale scores were analyzed. For seventeen first time CNM VTNE examinees, scale scores were reviewed for the CNM students as compared to the United States average, and the results were:
Surgical skills: CNM average scale score 507.47; United States average 441.90
Laboratory procedures: CNM average scale score 571.70; United States average 478.60
Imaging procedures: CNM average scale score 447.47; United States average 435.21
Interpreting the VTNE assessment findings indicates that the CNM students are consistently scoring higher than the average in the United States, and in some cases by nearly 100 points.
All students passed VT 2884 with passing grades of 71% or greater.
Action Plan in Support of Student Learning:
Continue to monitor final grades for courses and student retention / completion of the Program.
Continue to monitor the VTNE scale scores for the CNM students for the various student learning outcomes, especially as compared to national scale scores.
Recommendations, Proposals, and/or Funding Requests:
The expansion of the veterinary technology learning centers (rooms at the South Valley Campus) have aided in the quality of education being presented. Current funding, regular budget and Perkins, meets daily supply needs. The Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE) conference will be held in Albuquerque in August 2017, and funding to allow all full time faculty and as many as possible part time faculty as possible to attend will be requested.
