Making A Difference Forever

“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Would you like to make a difference? A lasting impression? Help others long after you are no longer living? We can help you answer yes to all of those questions and have been helping donors do so for the past 23 years. The Greater Altoona Blair County Community Endowment became a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization on March 24, 1995. This organization, which was started to provide a philanthropic vehicle for those who want to help their communities, is now known as the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation. Here are a few examples of how you can be part of the Community Foundation:

• A family establishes a scholarship in memory of their loved one to create a brighter future for a young person that they do not even know.

• A fund created to preserve a historic landmark.

• A visionary who establishes a fund with no restrictions other than wanting to perpetually help our community.

• A fund to support your favorite charities forever.

• A firm that loves our community and wants to provide an opportunity for its employees to take part in recommending grants from the company foundation.

Have you ever thought about the legacy that you will leave? Do you remember Benjamin Franklin from history class? He stated in his will “I wish to be useful even after my death.” Well over 200 years after his death Ben is still making a financial difference annually to charities within our community through the Benjamin Franklin Trust of the Community Foundation. His goal was accomplished! Perpetuity is one of our greatest features, so just like Ben, we can all make a difference forever. If you are already part of the Community Foundation – thank you once again – if not join us. If we all work together just imagine all the good that can be done. It is always a wonderful feeling to give back!

Funds You Can Create

UNDESIGNATED FUNDSThese funds allow the Community Foundation to respond to the most pressing needs of our communities. The income from your fund willprovidegrantsthatcanhelpdifferentorganizations each year.

DESIGNATED FUNDSThe annual income from your fund supports one or more charities that you select when you establish the fund.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDSYou, and others you name, will provide recommendations to the Foundation annually. This is a simple and inexpensive alternative to a private foundation.

FIELD-OF-INTEREST FUNDSYou specify an area of concern, such as education or the arts. Each year your fund will support a promising project in that area.

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDSYou may identify the course of study, specify the school or university; and establish the criteria to be used in selecting the scholarship recipient.

AGENCY FUNDSThese funds are established by a charitable organization instead of establishing their own foundation. This provides long-term funding for the organization while alleviating the administrative work.

Fellow Awards Foundation Fellows are those people who have either directly made a $1,000 contribution or who have been honored by others with a $1,000 contribution to the CPCF in their name. The Fellow Award serves two purposes through a commitment to the future of our community. Half of the amount will be used to support the operation of the Foundation, and the remainder will be placed in the permanent Community Fund.
