Time ManagementThis seminar will help improve planning, assertiveness,priority setting, decision making, desk and papermanagement, and communications skills. You willgain the skills to manage priorities, effectivelyintegrate both your schedule and your colleagues'schedules into your workday, and how to workefficiently with daily interruptions.

Business Proposal Writing Design a dynamic proposal that gets results. Whetheryou are responding to a business opportunity,communicating progress on an important project orsharing ideas with others, the structure, style andexpression of your proposal can be a major factor inachieving your goals. This seminar is designed toprovide individuals with the skills they need toimprove the planning, structuring and formatting offormal and informal proposals. Participants will learnto organize material to produce clear, well-planned

proposals by identifying categories of information thatshould be included in a good proposal whileunderstanding the importance of a good layout.Writing practice and tips are included throughout thecourse. Some out of class work will be assigned.

Effective Boards and Best Practices inGovernance and Administration This seminar will explore the roles and duties of Boardmembers, governance models, liability issues andrelationship building between the Board and staff.The focus will be on providing the practical applicationof a “Best Practice” approach to real Board situations.

Facilitation SkillsThis is designed to provide hands-on experience usingfacilitation tools and techniques. Specific learningactivities include selecting and practicing appropriategroup decision-making processes, establishing groupnorms and ground rules, dealing with difficultdynamics, planning effective meetings, and giving andreceiving feedback to improve group process andfacilitator performance. You will apply these principlesthrough a variety of large and small group discussions,experiential activities and facilitation practice sessions.

Topics will include stressand anxiety management, determining and optimizingindividual abilities, evaluating physical and mentalhealth, understanding personality and behaviours,establishing life goals, and conquering challenges. Building a Representative WorkforceParticipants will learn about unique needs andstrategies for hiring and employing Aboriginal people,visible minorities, persons with disabilities and womenin non-traditional careers. You will learn how toattract group members to your organization and howto retain them as staff. Professional Business CommunicationPreparing concise, high-impact documents thatachieve results is essential for business success. Thisseminar focuses on the elements of clear, concise andefficient business writing. Written and oralcomponents provide you with the opportunity topractice writing abstracts, proposals, reports andcorrespondence. You will learn how to read theenvironmental situation, set the tone and persuade alltypes of audiences.

Marketing Communications: Writing for theWeb and Writing for PrintWriting for the Web is different than writing for print.Intended for anyone tasked with creating content foronline consumption, the writing for the webcomponent focuses on the creation of an OnlineContent Guide to enable sustainable, consistent andcustomer-focused content. The Online Content Guideaffords the online writer/designer a framework inwhich the online voice, message and style can bedocumented. Design and process are also discussed,as they are inextricably linked with most elements ofthe Online Style Guide. This seminar also touches ondesigning tutorials and writing white papers. Thewriting for print component of this seminar teacheshow to deliver your key messages to your target

audience. Brochures, advertisements, articles andmedia releases will be covered. Measurement ofsuccess and return on investment of writing for printwill also be covered.

Introduction to Adobe PhotoShop andImageReadyPerhaps the most powerful graphics package evercreated, PhotoShop has one of the steepest learningcurves. This introductory level course is intended toteach users the basics of graphic creation for print,Web use, marketing and more. We’ll look at some ofthe basic, but powerful tools found in Photoshop’sarsenal, show you how to use layers to youradvantage and delve into effects that will take yourcreations beyond the ordinary. Intended for the non-graphics professional, we’ll decipher the oftenconfusing terms graphics professionals use, so thatyou know how to create animations and optimizegraphics for use on the Internet and speak to yourprinting company.

Geographic Information SystemsGeographic Information Systems (GISs) are increasinglyimportant tools for planning and managementactivities in local government, business and serviceplanning, logistics (including transportation) and theenvironment. A GIS is a computer-based system formanaging geographic data and using this data tosolve spatial problems. In this course you will learnthe basics of ArcView, one of the most populargeographical information systems in use today. Thiscourse will be of interest to both new GIS users, aswell as managers, who need to learn more about thisexciting technology.

Leadership Action PlanDevelop a tactical leadership action plan to take backto your work place. In the seminar you will develop avision, implement systems that are based on yourleadership competencies and develop opportunitiesfor your team. Credit Studies Division

The Credit Studies Division of the Centre for Continuing Education provides credit courses and programs in flexibleformats for those who wish to pursue their personal and career goals through University-level education. Studentsentering most Credit Studies Division Certificate programs require no minimum educational background to get started.We offer our programs with mature learners in mind by scheduling courses at a variety of locations and at a variety oftimes.

PROGRAM DELIVERY.

Credit Studies Division Certificate programs reflect thewide range of career and educational goals of ourstudents. For example, students taking the Certificateof Administration Level I may pursue the program as astand-alone Certificate or as a first step in the journeytowards a Bachelor of Business Administration.Teachers working towards the Certificate of ExtendedStudies in Inclusive Education want knowledge andrecognition in the teaching speciality of InclusiveEducation.

Credit Studies Division also delivers the WeekendUniversity, Corporate Campus and SummerUniversity programs to provide maximum flexibilityand accessibility to all University of Regina students.Many students – both part-time and full-time – facethe challenge of juggling school, work, family andcommunity responsibilities without letting anythingdrop. Level IThis program is targeted to those either preparing foradministrative careers or already working inadministrative positions. Inso doing, they will broaden their perspectives, increaseconfidence in their abilities and develop newapproaches to old problems.

Level IIThis certificate is equivalent to one year of universitystudy (30 credit hours). It consists of the first fivecourses taken during Level I plus degree credit coursesin Business Administration, Economics and otherelectives. It is designed to help students build onknowledge and skills usually gained by completing theCertificate of Administration, Level I.

Note: The Certificates in Administration Level I & IIcan either stand alone as learning achievements orserve as part of the journey towards a Diploma inBusiness Administration and Bachelor of BusinessAdministration. Students interested in continuing theirstudies in this manner should seek academiccounselling early in their studies.

Adult Continuing Education and TrainingCertificateStudents will gain the basic knowledge and skillsassociated with the design and delivery of trainingprograms in adult training environments. Graduates ofthis program can apply all five courses (15 credithours) to the Certificate in Human ResourceDevelopment.

Certificate in Human Resource DevelopmentThe Certificate in Human Resource Developmentequals one year of full-time studies (30 credit hours).Itis intended for individuals who want to increase theirprofessional preparation for adult development andinstruction roles. Graduates of this program may applyall 10 courses to the Bachelor of Adult Education andTraining provided that they meet the entrancerequirements and other transfer requirements of theFaculty of Education.

Certificates in Child and Family Studies –Level I and Level II

Level IThis 15-credit hour program is designed for peoplewho work with children and their families in varioussettings. Students take five courses that provideinterdisciplinary approaches and techniques relevant totheir work. Level I provides students the opportunityto explore issues of diversity, culture, language, andchild development that have direct practicalapplication to child-care and social serviceenvironments in Saskatchewan.

Level IILevel II is designed to build on experiential knowledgeand practical tools students gained by completingLevel I. Students have the opportunity to choose fivecourses that will give them a broader understandingof issues related to working with children and theirfamilies.

Students who complete both levels will havecompleted one full year of University (30 credit hours.)Students who want to apply these courses to otherprograms at the University of Regina should seekadvising early in their program.

Certificate of Extended Studies in InclusiveEducationInclusive Education is a dynamic and flexible approachto supporting students with special needs in schoolsand communities. Conservatory of Performing Arts

The Conservatory of Performing Arts provides training and enrichment courses in music, spoken and dramatic arts, anddance. The Conservatory offers group and individual instruction, courses, workshops, master-classes, numerous recitalopportunities and programs for all ages and abilities. ABOUT THE CONSERVATORY.

Development of the Whole Person throughthe ArtsThe Conservatory is committed to providing a healthyand positive learning environment where students’individual needs and learning styles are supported andcultivated. In keeping with national and internationaltrends in arts training, the Conservatory promotes aninteractive, caring and respectful environment ratherthan a competitive environment. Artistic studies helpdevelop among other things, focus and concentration,mental, physical and emotional health, as well as apassion for life.

Awards, Scholarships and BursariesThrough the generous legacies of many Reginapatrons and former Conservatory students, a numberof important scholarships and bursaries are availableto assist with ongoing performing arts studies.

Performance Opportunities and RecitalsLast year the Conservatory held over 35 studentrecitals where well over 600 students performed. Thiscoming year, in addition to our regular recitalschedule, we will host a number of general recitalswhere students from all disciplines are encouraged toparticipate. The general recitals are an excellent wayfor students to hear other students. Please visitwww.uofrconservatory.ca for a list of general recitaldates.

All Conservatory recitals are open to thepublic with no admission charged.

EnsemblesThe Conservatory encourages all students to work ingroups and create music together. Let us know if you would like to be part of an ensemble. We will set youup with other musicians and a coach to guide you.Tuition is based on the size of the group and thenumber of lessons with the coach.

FacilitiesThe Conservatory houses over 50 teaching studios inthe Conservatory Building and Darke Hall. It also hasfive excellent dance studios including two largesprung-floor studios and a number of large classroomand rehearsal spaces.

RecitalsStudent recitals are held in either our outstandingacoustically engineered 110-seat Recital Hall or thehistoric Darke Hall that seats over 500 people. Both ofthese facilities are available for use by communitygroups who are looking for a space to hold a recital orpublic performance. Instrument RentalsIn order to assist students in the transition to largerinstruments, the Conservatory has reasonable rentalrates for a range of instruments.Instruments for rent include:• Violins (1/16, 1/10, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full size)• Violas (Small, standard, intermediate and full size)• Cellos (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full size)• Double Basses (1/2, 3/4 and full size)• Guitars (1/2, 5/8, 3/4, full and concert size)

MUSIC DEPARTMENT.

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTIONThe Conservatory Music Department offers group andindividual instruction for most instruments and stylesof music. Whether you are interested in music as acareer or simply for personal enrichment, theConservatory has a program to fit your needs.

What is Individual Instruction?Individual instruction provides one-on-one attentionthrough a weekly lesson at the Conservatory. Lessonsare 30, 45 or 60 minutes in duration, depending onthe student’s level and expectations. Instructor feesvary, with the average rate of $18.50 per half-hour. Ifyou are interested in individual instruction, call theConservatory office at 585-5830 or 585-5831. Ourstaff will ask for some basic information and referyour inquiry to the appropriate Department Head. Heor she will then match you with an appropriateinstructor. Students may sign up for a year, a term oran initial block of trial lessons. Students may request achange of instructor at any time and for any reason.Please contact the Conservatory office for the namesof instructors who may have joined us after theprinting of this calendar.

The Spoken and Dramatic Arts program focuses onproviding students the opportunity to learn tocommunicate with creativity and confidence. Studentswill learn to speak with clarity through theappreciation and performance of quality literature.

Rhythms and Rhymes (6-8 years)Children age 6-8 begin to find their own voices andpersonal expression through storytelling and choralspeech of nursery rhymes, poetry and prose. REGULAR PROGRAM.

The regular ESL program consists of a core curriculumof required coursework in the morning, and afternoonclasses selected by the student. Electives includeacademic writing, business and technical writing, oralcommunication, grammar and writing, TOEFLpreparation, slang and idioms, drama, publicspeaking, pronunciation, live theatre and movieclasses. Immigrants and Canadian citizens pay two-thirds of the tuition for full-time and part-time classesin the regular program. The regular program is offeredthroughout the year in fall, winter, spring andsummer. Classes are housed on the main campus ofthe University of Regina.

Specialized CoursesIn addition to the regular program, we offerspecialized courses such as English for NATO pilots,language and culture programs for Japanese universitystudents, the five-week Explore Program for Quebecstudents, and the Summer English Language Programfor international students.

Since 1972, international students and new Canadians have enrolled in the English as a Second Language (ESL)Program to improve their language skills in preparation for university admission and to further their individual careergoals. ESL courses are taught by qualified instructors who either hold master's degrees and/or a TESL certificate, andhave years of experience teaching adult learners.

Seniors Education Centre

The Seniors Education Centre [SEC] was established in 1977 to provide lifelong learning programs within a supportiveenvironment for those 55 years of age and over, with no prior formal education required. SEC programs stimulate theintellectual, emotional and physical well being of older adults in order to enrich their lives. Approximately 180 coursesare offered by SEC each year with no assignments or exams and most have no homework.

THE SENIORS’ UNIVERSITY GROUP.

SEC is a partnership between the University of ReginaCentre for Continuing Education [CCE] and theSeniors’ University Group Inc. [SUG]. Older adults 55+wishing to register in courses at the seniors’ rate arerequired to be current members of SUG. Themembership fee for the year April 1, 2006 to March31, 2007 is $15. You can join or update yourmembership for the 2006-2007 year when youregister for courses. SUG Membership benefits entitleyou to:• Register for course(s) and become part of a vibrant

Grandmothers Caring for Grandchildren are invited toparticipate in monthly Talking Circles with an Elder.These will be held at Four Directions CommunityHealth Centre from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Dec 1 andJan 26 and at other convenient dates. English As a Second Language ConversationProgramSEC has a conversation class for older immigrants whowant to improve their English.
