Page 2: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

LEARNING OBJECTIVES!

Our Goals for the day... • Understand the importance of sustainability.• Use an online calculator to find out our individual

carbon footprints.• Make appropriate personal choices in order to

be more sustainable in our everyday lives.• Create a Prezi presentation describing your plan

of action to become more earth-friendly.

living in order to improve the future.– “Making the world a

better place”

The 5 Main Sections of Sustainability

1. Electricity

2. Food/Drink

3. Water Use

4. Transportation

5. Nature/Environment

Page 5: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Electricity

• Things that are plugged in, such as the television, require electricity

• The more electricity we use, the more we are hurting the earth

Page 6: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Food and Drink

• Foods that are processed and have lots of packaging, such as hot dogs, are less earth-friendly than fruits and vegetables

• We can become more sustainable by eating healthy, natural foods.

Page 7: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Water Use

• We use water to do many things, such as wash dishes, do laundry, go swimming, and shower.

• Each time we use water, we are reducing the water that the earth has.

Page 8: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Transportation

• We use transportation, like cars, bikes, buses, trains, airplanes, to get from place to place.

• The more we can get around by not using cars, the more sustainable we will be.

Page 9: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Nature/Environment

• Many plants and animals are working hard to keep our earth healthy and clean

• It is up to us to not destroy trees, plants, and habitats.

What is a Carbon Footprint?

• The more you do things that use up resources (such as take long showers, drive in a car, keep the sink running, and keep the lights turned on) the more Carbon Dioxide you use and the higher your carbon footprint will be.

• We want to have LOW Carbon Footprints to help keep our earth healthy.

Brainstorming…

• What did your results mean to you?

• What can you do to DECREASE your carbon footprint?

Page 12: Cep 416 Lesson Plan

Assignment

• Make a short presentation of things YOU can do in your daily life to decrease your carbon footprint and become more sustainable

• Use what we already know about Prezi to complete this assignment
