CEPO – April 17th, 2016 @ CTE Conference Room

Attendees: Michelle Koch, Stacie Ferrence, Janelle Anderson, Kathy Kaiser, Jennifer Kippels, Heather Mock, Laura Alonzi, Melanie (guest), Danielle Steinhoff, Gretchen Ulvin, Sara Neibergall, Mark Pumper, Guest: Melanie works for Girl Scouts and supports the NE suburbs; 190 girls in 24 troops and about 100 volunteers; only 20 girls at CTE involved currently; would like to expand and encourage the girls to get involved over the summer if they are interested; open house at the Centennial Library this Saturday (4/22) from 10:00-12:00; recommended having a table at the Ice Cream Social this fall (need to notify the office in August). Business Review:

• Site Council Report – Heather and Stacey o Student Leadership Council is doing Earth Day and a Teacher/Staff Appreciation the

first week of May. ▪ Taking applications for incoming 4-5th graders

o The district grounds crew is cleaning up the front of the building in May (removing weed gardens and trimming the trees). No need for volunteers to do that.

o Want more playground equipment – tennis balls, etc. o PBIS meeting is tomorrow and the afternoon of 4/24 is the big kickoff meeting for the

staff o Kids are able to ride their bikes to school now – get your bike license!

• Principal’s Report – Kathy Kaiser o Report on page 4-5 o District calendar review – discussed possible dates for the events we want to do next

year o Need to decide when our CEPO meetings will be next year so we can get the space

reserved ▪ Where do we want to meet next year? The STEM room was suggested – better

lighting and easier to move the tables

• Box Tops Report – Gretchen o Details on page 8 o Next reward is for the classroom collected the most throughout the year; prize not

determined yet

• Treasurer’s Report – Mark o Report on page 6-7 o Extra funds for field trip busing will come out of the CTE budget ($72) o Scholastic News – last month we discussed if it was possible to pare this down and do

more sharing. The teachers were polled and agreed – the savings would be about $1100 next year.

o PBIS t-shirts – Looking for CEPO to fund the gap from the fundraiser (tumblers/cookies) with the assemblies underspend ($1700; voted and we agreed) and Scholastic News saved funds.

o Possible budget additions: ▪ Brain Pop Jr. for grades K-3 - $175 per grade level license ▪ eBooks for Cybrary to continue expanding the offerings next year

Fundraisers and Events Review:

• Feed My Starving Children – April 8th

Page 2: CEPO April 17th, 2016 - · PDF fileCEPO – April 17th, 2016 @ CTE Conference Room Attendees: Michelle Koch, Stacie Ferrence, Janelle Anderson, Kathy Kaiser, Jennifer Kippels, Heather

o 28 people attended o Michelle’s video on Facebook was very good.

• 5th Grade Party – May 19th – After school 4-6 pm.

• Art Adventures o Can we book next year’s resident artist yet? Yes, they are hard to get! o Base cost is $2000 for a week + supplies o Should this come out of our assemblies budget? Agreed yes

• Scholastic book fair o Stacey is looking for other parents to get involved and take it over. There is one parent

who can do it if she is not working. o There is some talk about switching to a different vendor – Kathy recommended doing

Scholastic next year and planning to switch after that if we decide to. o We have a little less than $4000 to spend with Scholastic currently. $800 needs to be

spent by August; suggesting we use it to enhance grade 3-5 classroom book options o $1977 was kept as cash to go into the library fund o Most schools actually do half price book fair in spring. Will the book fair during the

carnival be a half price book fair? ▪ A few years ago, we had a BOGO sale during the carnival – but we have to hold

two book fairs in order to get this option. ▪ Need to run the book fair for 5 days to get all the Cybrary classes in (the teachers

like that) o In the past ALL money has gone towards books. Is it still all going toward books? Not

sure

• Events discussion: o Decided to have Bingo for Books in January – targeting the 12th

▪ Kathy has reserved the gym and cafeteria for us o Kindergarten Play Date – free, at a park, thinking 6-7:30 the week of August 21-25;

maybe snacks and 8 oz. water bottles o Father/Daughter//Mother/Son dance – Community Ed does this too o Summer Reading Program – CTE is collaborating with the Centennial Public Library /

Anoka County Library for our students to participate in their summer reading program. The CTE school library is not planned to be open this summer.

Fundraiser Planning: This year we did: 1. Square One Art - yes 2. Grand raffle - yes 3. Twins tickets (we don’t make a lot) - no 4. Cookie dough/ tumblers – see how it goes 5. Stroll - yes 6. Other Information

• We are looking for a parent representative for a two-year term on Site Council. Heather

Mock has done a super job and has completed her term. The application window was

April 3-13. We will extend the window through this week. If we do not receive an

application, Heather has graciously offered to serve another 2-year term.

I don’t say it often enough, but THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all of our fantastic CEPO members.

You have given generously of your time, wallets, and hearts for our students and our school again this year.
