EXTENDING OUR REACH TO SERVE MORE FAMILIES

CFGC’s administrative offices and North Hills and Palmdale Outpatient mental healthcare services have moved to new locations. The new facilities offer increased capacity to serve more children, youth and families in need. Our Community Resource Services and Early Childhood and Trauma Services are now housed in one building located at: 8550 Balboa Boulevard, Suite 150 in Northridge.

Our Antelope Valley offices have also moved all programs and services into a new, larger facility. The new CFGC-Palmdale office is located at 40005 10th Street West, Suite 106. These moves are part of CFGC’s strategic plan to position the agency to respond to identified community needs in the years ahead.

We invite you to visit our new facilities. To schedule a tour, please send an email to: [email protected]

“In seventh grade, a fight with a girl my age got so bad that I broke her nose. I had been suspended for fighting three times before, but this time the principal said that I wouldn’t be allowed to return to school. Then, a counselor told my mom about CFGC’s Aggression Replacement Therapy.” *

AGGRESSION REPLACEMENT THERAPY (ART)

Aggression Replacement Therapy (ART) uses role playing and empathy building exercises to offer teens with anger issues a whole new way to cope with difficulties. Teens who fight and rage with peers or aggressively oppose authority figures are often labelled trouble makers. In truth, out-of-control anger and aggression is often a sign of depression, trauma or other emotional issues.

ART combines three 10-week components to form a powerful experience that changes the way at-risk kids deal with anger and aggression. As a Licensed Therapist, I work with small groups of teens to identify skills they can use to diffuse situations, like listening and asking to explain. Then, the group “role plays” the situations and has a chance to “practice” making healthier choices under their most difficult circumstances. ART is proven to teach youth how to form healthy relationships with friends, teachers, parents and communities.

Christina Moreno, LMFT | School Services ManagerART Lead Therapist - Antelope Valley

If you know a teenager who struggles to cope with anger, CFGC can help. For daily positive coping tips, follow us on Twitter @ #CFGCtips.

*Fictional depiction of a client’s experience

“When kids at school used to tease me, I felt embarrassed and trapped. I thought the only way they would stop was if I hit or kicked them. But once I started, I couldn’t stop. I got so angry that I kept fighting until the other kid was too hurt to fight back.”*

CFGC’S COMMUNITY FAMILY CENTER ASSISTS FAMILIES ENROLLING IN NEW HEALTH COVERAGE PROGRAMS

CFGC’s Community Family Center (CFC) has helped families enroll in Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and other health coverage programs for 14 years. Now, with new healthcare options available, we are expanding this service. Starting in July, along with our on-site health coverage enrollment service in Northridge, CFC began reaching out to many families that are eligible for health coverage for the first time. Our healthcare specialists provide presentations at local schools, churches and community centers to educate families about their health care coverage options. CFC also offers assistance with registration. We aim to educate newly insured families about using preventative healthcare coverage so that they have improved health outcomes.

Our goal is to make sure as many families as possible take advantage of the benefits of early intervention. If you or someone you know is uninsured and interested in enrolling in a health care plan, please contact CFC at 818.882.3147.

CFGC’S COMMUNITY RESOURCE SERVICES WORK WITH MEDICAL DOCTORS TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENT PATIENT OUTCOMES

Did you know that medical doctors can work with CFGC’s Community Resource Service (CRS) to help them ensure that their patients stay as healthy as possible? CRS medical educators accompany patients to their doctor appointments and work side-by-side with doctors to make sure patients are consistently managing their serious health issues. Families also benefit from having a CRS case manager to help them navigate the often confusing healthcare system.

Our case management team helps families gain access to quality healthcare from MDs by removing barriers that keep them from seeking treatment for health problems. The service also provides medical doctors’ patients with links to community support resources that work closely with MDs to provide services that families need the most. Ultimately, CRS reduces tasks that impact MDs’ ability to treat more patients.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: LINDA AND FRANK DAMON

When professional psychologist Linda Damon began working for CFGC in 1976, her work with children and families became her life-long passion. Along with her husband Frank, a retired attorney and active community donor and volunteer, Linda has consistently given generously to CFGC throughout the decades. On-going contributions from the Damons’ have expanded the reach of CFGC’s most crucial services, such as prevention and early intervention. Some of the Damons’ past donations included $5,000 and $10,000 matching gifts, which double the reach of funds received from throughout the community.

If you’re thinking about making a donation to CFGC, now is the time! For first-time donors, or donors who have not made a charitable contribution to CFGC in the last 3 years, your gift will do twice as much for the community! Thanks to this year’s “Damon Match,” a donation of any amount from new and lapsed donors will be matched by the Damons’...dollar for dollar! Just click here to make your donation now. No amount is too small, and no amount is too large either! Not a new donor? Thank you for your continued support!
