As 2019 draws to an end, all of us at CHA feel deep gratitude to all of you who have made it such a memorable year. In addition to our successful Guild events, Table Talk and the Storyland Gala, we have also made several exciting strategic moves as we prepare for CHA’s growth in the coming years.

We have now formalized our Strategic Priorities across four broad categories that define our mission. This enables us to diversify our fundraising capabilities and, more importantly, to be more intentional going forward about the kinds of worthwhile Programs we choose to fund. With these clear priorities in mind, we have just chosen a total of 18 innovative programs to support in 2020, including five exciting new initiatives, making a total of $718,300 in pledges.

We have also spent considerable time this year imagining and planning for the guilds of the future. We are delighted that we will be announcing our first ‘corporate guild’ early in 2020, and we are confident it will serve as an interesting new model. Into next year, we look forward to continuing to support our 10 active guilds as well as create more new guilds and pop-up community fundraisers.

As the CHA Community grows, so does our gratitude to all of you who continue to support our efforts to improve the lives of children and their families at Children’s Minnesota.

Happy New Year to you all.

Mary G. Boss2019 CHA President

Thoughts from the President...

We are thrilled to annouce that The Board of Directors inducted two new

members at their December meeting: Amy Jauman and Jennifer Martini.

One of the hallmark accomplishments for CHA this year is creating corporate sponsor connec-tions. These organizations have empowered their employees to volunteer for CHA’s at our signature events and engage with our mission.

Last year, CHA created a volunteer partnership with Mairs and Power, an investment advisor firm in St. Paul. Tiffany Marx, a trade settlement specialist, was among the volunteers who worked at the Storyland Gala. While she was at the Gala, she felt engaged by the fun and knowledgeable volunteer environment. “It came up as an opportunity to give back, and I got to learn more about CHA as I worked. Why would that not be something important to give to?”

Historically, CHA has made strong connections to Thomsen Reuters through our Guild and board members. Over the years, those con-nections have sprouted new engagement net-

works. Scott Nugent, a senior systems analyst for Thomsen Reuters, decided to join CHA af-ter Roger Seaver, one of our board members, told him about our work. “I had trust that it was a great organization, and that was enough for me.” After Scott worked with us at the 2019 Table Talk, he asked his wife to get involved at the Storyland Gala. As an active volunteer for organizations in the metro, he knows it’s little things that he can do that make a big differ-ence.

When Rachel Ginter moved to the Twin Cities to work with Thomsen Reuters, she was look-ing for a place to give back. Like Scott, she was driven to build community with the time and energy she had. “I have always loved getting involved with my community. It’s what makes our community feel like a home.” She volun-teered at the Storyland Gala and the North Oaks Home for the Holidays Gala. She was blown away by the generosity of the patrons

and volunteers, but she also fell in love with our cause: “Nobody asks to be sick, especially a child. Anytime that we can give back and empower children is so incredible.”

CHA has over 2,000 people currently volunteering to support innovative, quality health care for Children’s Min-nesota. For more information on do-nating your talents to CHA, visit http://www.cha-stpaul.org/get-invloved/.

Powered by Volunteers CHA’s new corporate connections have built new engagement in St. Paul

The Children’s Hospital Association was founded in 1933 by volunteers. Today, the spirit of giving is still at the heart of our work and mission.

To our sponsors, guests, and volunteers:

Thank you for a wonderful and memorable evening of giving at this year’s Storyland Gala. Because of our generous patrons, we raised $103,000 for the CHA Legacy Fund. We are deeply grateful for your contributions to support the most amazing people on earth.

Since our inception in 1933, the passion of caring individuals from across our communities have been fundamental to CHA’s success. At that time in history, CHA members held Tag Days, a day where people gave money for a charity

in the street and were given tags to show that they contributed. Today, CHA’s efforts have moved beyond the St. Paul streets. We’re connecting with supporters through digital networks, the stories of the families we’re reaching, and the passion of our volunteers.

Over the past year, hundreds more of our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family have stepped forward to join in our work. We’ve seen these connections blossom: our Board members have connected us to their coworkers, neighbors, and friends. Those people have become volunteers, donors, and new Guild and Board members. Community and connection was our Storyland Gala theme and it has been a common thread woven through our work this year.

Each connection starts as a simple action – joining event, volunteering, and hour or two, to learning more about a program. The result is something greater than any one person can imagine. Together, we’re taking CHA to new heights.

In 2019, more than 10,000 children and their families were touched by programs and services that CHA pledged to Children’s Minnesota. We are able to reach so many families because of the loyal support from our donors, Guild and Board members, and volunteers. As we begin to bring this year to a close, we are grateful for all those who have worked to share CHA with their community. We look forward to the continuous growth of the CHA family in 2020.

With gratitude,

Erin Bursch CHA Executive Director

We are thrilled to announce our newest addition to the CHA team: in November, Emma Myhre joined us as the new Communications and Events Associate.

Emma graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in June with a Communication Studies and Theatre double major and an English minor. She has been recognized by Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society, Lamda Pi Eta Communication Studies Honors Society, and as a research panelist at the St. Thomas Undergraduate Communications Conference.

She joins us with a strong background in non-profit marketing, communications, and event planning. Most recently, Emma has honed these skills at the Gustavus Quarterly and The Classic Theatre of San Antonio.

“I love being a part of an organization that works so hard to make a difference on an individual level, from our volunteers to the children and families we serve. CHA has a mission that I am excited to promote, support, and grow.”

After six months, we are also saying goodbye to our Communications Intern, Kyra Boland. She will be graduating from the University of Minnesota in December with a B.A. in Strategic Communications. Throughout her internship, Kyra has been an excellent team member: she is always attentive to her work, helping our volunteers, and connecting with our Guilds.

As she pursues her next steps with various PR and advertisement agencies, she is grateful for her experiences with CHA. “Being a part of something that makes such a big difference in a lot of people’s lives is so fulfilling. I am so proud to have worked here and to be a small part of our mission.”

There’s no place like the Home for the Holidays TourThe North Oaks I Home for the Holidays event has been an annual tradition benefitting CHA for decades. This year, over 1,000 guests attended the beautifully decorated home tour in North Oaks and shopping in the holiday botique, the highest attendance to date. The Gala, which included a silent auction, bourbon tasting, and dinner, was also widely attended. The event raised approximately $75,000 to benefit Children’s Minnesota.

North Oaks I is also thrilled to welcome twelve new members to their Guild this year. They are excited about the growth of their events and their guild and are already looking ahead to making next year even better.

Any tributes recieved after December 10th will be in our next publication.
