I purchased the car in July 1993 from Maurice Takoor, the insurance valuations officer of the NSRA. The credit for the modifications should go to Charlie Taylor from the East End of London who carried out all the work in 1982 at a cost of £4,000 and 3,000 man hours. Maurice named it the Honorary Consul in reference to the film and the book and Steph Newington signwrote the name for me.

The specifications and mods are numerous but are basically as follows;

1954 MK1 Ford Consul 4-door saloon, 1969 Ford 302cu in small block V8, C4 Auto gearbox with B & M shift kit and quick click shifter, Jag S-type rear axle with LSD, narrowed 6 ¾”, MK 2 Zodiac front struts, servo assisted with drilled discs, rack and pinion steering, Holley 650 vacuum secondary carb, street dominator manifold, blackjack headers, crane cam, ported and polished heads, crossflow high capacity rad with twin cooling fans and built in auto gearbox cooler section, etc, etc.

The car was originally bare metalled and sprayed in two-tone Fiat Olive green and Mercedes Ivory and I restored the lower half of the bodywork over an 8 year period in the early 2,000’s. The Diamondback radial whitewalls are made in America and are a recent addition to replace the previously painted tyres.

The car has been featured in various magazines and was a front cover car in Street Machine magazine in 1987.It is very comfortable to drive and is a true sleeper and can surprise other motorists as it is so stock looking.

The registration was transferred from my Morris Minor Custom which I originally bought in 1978 for £60 without looking at the J number until after purchase!

TRINITY MANOR – 13TH OCTOBER Le Riche Automobile Restorers organised a “Cows & Cars” event to promote local motoring clubs to a group ofwealthy immigrants hosted by Mr & Mrs Paul Bell at Trinity Manor.As you will see from the pictures below a wide variety of cars from various clubs attended the event on a sunnyday in beautiful surroundings. ST JOHN FELLOWSHIP RUN & LUNCH

The club held its annual joint outing with the St John Fellowship on Sunday October 14th. After meeting at Pier road car park fellowship members were assigned to the 7 classic cars available. Unfortunately the day was a bit miserable and so the numbers were a bit lower than normal. The route took us down to the harbour and eventually up Queen's road to go towards Sandybrook through lanes never before seen by some members. From Sandybook we then travelled up towards the Co-op garage, but turniing off just before to have a pit stop atSt Peters Garden Centre. During the route to keep the mind active the codriver and passengers had to keep a look out for various objects and a few interesting questions about Jersey. After the coffee stop we travelled straight down to the Ambassadeur Hotel where we all enjoyed an excellent lunch followed by a raffle. Thanks to all the club members who attended & to Ossie Baudains for preparing the route and questionnaire & to Trevor &Pearl Bayliss who organised the event.

BINGO NIGHT

Friday 2nd November was the night for our club bingo held atthe Ambassadeur Hotel, which was very well attended, atotal of 90 members and friends attended the evening and itwas pleasing to see some new faces apart from the regularbingo players. After our food of either chicken, fish, scampi orsausage and chips, together with pots of tomato sauce andtartare sauce, we started playing bingo.The theme for the evening was French. All prizes were paidfor by the club and they were French CV2 cars or vans filledeither with caramel sweets, gallettes or palets. Second part of the evening we were scheduled to play twoflyers for cash prizes. £25 for 1 line, £50 for 2 lines and £100.but as we had so many more people attending, after paying for the food we had extra cash to spare so we played a third flyer for prize money totalling another £120

Many thanks to Sue and Robert Le Moel for organising the evening. Look forward to the next bingo night onFriday 5th April 2019 at the Ambassadeur Hotel
