At the start of Term 3, students have been very fortunate to have a dance teacher come in and hold fortnightly sessions on a Tuesday. Students have been able to focus on a range of movement skills including turning, jumping, galloping, skipping, marching and so much more. Students have also been dancing along to their favourite songs during musical statue activities. Their excitement in participating in their dance sessions shine right through as they do not stop from start to end. Kat. We were very fortunate to have a team of Bunnings staff members visit us this week to provide us with a fantastic garden makeover. Students and staff were provided with hands-on assistance in planting a vegetable and herb garden that was kindly donated by Bunnings. We look forward to caring for our garden, watching it grow and trying lots of fresh produce in the coming months.

This term we celebrated the topic ‘Future Earth’ for Science Week. All students participated in self-managed activity stations that covered various focus areas such as Ecosystem Services, Cities, Sustainable Development, Water, Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environmental accounting. Interactive stations were set up to explore the importance of plants in our soil, create awareness of pollution and highlight the importance of recycling. Students enjoyed fishing for pollution through a fun-filled water-based sensory activity and sorting recyclable items.

Other stations included a focus on sustainable development where students worked together to build futuristic cities out of materials such as recycled boxes. A highlight of Science Week was the rocket launch experiment made from recycled bottles, bicarbonate soda and vinegar. Following this, students used recyclable boxes to make their own rockets and explored planets and the solar system using interactive iPad games.

Vicky, Aisling, Emma M and Shanna. Yellow Class is powering through this term as we delve into the concepts of applying technology into our lessons for Science! We have also enjoyed a new addition to our class with Miss Isabel teaching Visual Arts on Friday mornings. The students have been creating art works based on famous Australian landmarks. Aisling and Julia. Orange Class is working very hard this term. In Maths the students are learning about money. In deskwork, we are matching coins and notes and identifying some key features of each by colouring images of coins and notes in the correct colour. Students also enjoyed comparing and sorting heavy and light items as part of the maths topic.

As part of the English theme “Journeys”, Orange Class are taking a journey around Australia. We meet new characters as we explore each state while learning about a popular landmark in that area. Students are learning to name and identify various items of clothing needed for different activities; for example, students try on a snorkel when exploring activities we do on the Great Barrier Reef. Orange Class students are very excited to embark on a weekly journey to Livvi’s playground from week 7 on. Students will socialise in the community in a fun day out.

Dear Parents, We are excited to be taking part in the 2017 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. Last year, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you. From Monday 26th July 2017 until Tuesday 19th September 2017, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker card. Alternatively, please drop any loose stickers in the front office, in the Earn & Learn sticker box. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school. If you need more sticker cards, please let your child’s teacher know. The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 7,000 educational resources including Mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more! We are very grateful for your support to date and look forward to a successful program. We have been able to collect up to 900 stickers so far. With only four weeks left, please continue to bring your stickers in. If you have any questions, please ask at school. Thank you Lily.
