“We WELCOME all,
WORSHIP together at the Eucharistic table, and give WITNESS to Jesus Christ.”
Many of you fondly remember Fr. Kelly, the second pastor of St.
Thomas a'Becket. Many of you may already know this, but he passed on
from this life on January 3rd of this year. He was 76 years old. He was
born in 1944, ordained in 1970 and served as priest in the Archdiocese of
Detroit until the time he left active ministry in 2004.
Due to COVID-19, a funeral is not currently planned. Condolences may
be sent to Fr. Kelly's brother, Tom Kelly, 6505 Prairie Dunes Drive, Grand
Blanc, MI 48439.
Please remember Fr. Kelly and his family in your prayers.
You may have heard about the major archdiocesan (AOD) reorganiza-
tion plan known as 'Family of Parishes' Our parish leadership has
discussed this on a number of occasions in the past year. It is time to
introduce what we now know of this plan to everyone else. I first wrote to
you about this reorganization of the AOD in the Chancellor in the edition
just after Christmas. Some of you may have missed it, so I am reprinting it.
All parishes within the AOD will be grouped into 'families of parishes' (3-6
parishes). Each 'family' will likely have a 'moderator pastor' (the pastor in
charge). Each parish in the family will share pastors with the other parishes
in the family. There will not be one pastor for any given parish, but all
pastors in the family will share the pastoral responsibilities for all the
churches in the family. Our 'family' will consist of our parish, St. John
Neumann, Resurrection and Our Lady of Good Counsel.
This will be done in two 'waves'. The first 50% of parishes in the AOD
will reorganize into families in June, 2021. We just found out a couple
weeks ago that Becket will be in the second 'wave', which means our
transition will not be completed until July 1, 2022. This means that for the
next year and a half, parish life here should be like it has always been. The
transition for us will begin in January of 2022 and be completed by July 1,
2022.
I am sure you have many questions about this new configuration - so
do I! The AOD has developed a website just for this purpose, though. The
site is called appropriately enough: familiesofparishes.org It is a very
informative site that does answer many of the common questions
regarding this new parish reality. We will learn together as we get closer to
2022.
Peace and Blessings!
Fr. Chris

We want to provide you with the financial information for the first quarter of our fiscal year which began on October 1, 2020. We started the time period with a balance of $24,791.86. We received contributions for the quarter that totaled $16,174.00. We received several large donations from thoughtful supporters during this time. This gave us $40,956.86 to help those who need us. The expenses for the first quarter were as follows: $12,769.09 for rent, $1718.72 for utilities, $2,400.00 for twinning, and $1,500.00 to the St. Mary’s of Wayne Food Bank. There was also $4,671.00 paid out in miscellaneous expenses. The majority of the last figure is the yearly payment that we make to the Archdiocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society. It is a tax that is based on the annual donations that we receive. The total expenses were $23,058.81. Once all expenses were paid, the balance left at the end of December 2020 was $17,907.05. There were also many pounds of food and household items donated to the Red Wagons during this period. We thank everyone who has helped us along the way. We, as Vincentians, truly appreciate the generosity of our parish. The members of our faith community continually demonstrate their love and care for the poor in our midst. Your kindness is a blessing to those in need.

Support Life
Novena As Catholics, we know prayer is what strengthens and sustains our efforts to defend the sanctity of life.
Your parish Knights of Columbus council is asking for your support by praying the following novena with us for nine (9) consecutive days beginning January 21st.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life. Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain and suffering. Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living. Grant us the humility to accept help when we are in need, and teach us to be merciful to all. Through our words and actions, may others encounter the outstretched hands of Your mercy. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.”

Page 5 St. Thomas a’Becket Chancellor
Nicene Creed:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayers of the Faithful
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church: that we may introduce others to Christ through virtuous lives, loving deeds, and truthful words, we pray to the Lord: For healing of our nation: that God will heal the divisions in our country, guide all elected officials in fulfilling their duties, and help them to work selflessly for the common good, we pray to the Lord: For greater respect for human life: that hearts may be opened to the value and dignity of all human life from conception until natural death, we pray to the Lord: For a successful vaccination program: that God will make effective the available vaccines, guide those distributing and administering them, and open pathways for their distribution to those most in need, we pray to the Lord: For all of us gathered here at St. Thomas a’Becket: that we may quiet our hearts and minds so that we may perceive God’s presence and invitations through the words of scripture and our daily experiences, we pray to the Lord: For an end to the coronavirus pandemic, for those recovering from Covid-19, and for the sick in our community: that God’s healing spirit will rest upon them, relieve their suffering, and restore them to their loved ones, especially …..— we pray to the Lord: For all who have died in faith: that God will call them by name and welcome them into his presence and
peace, especially :
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Preparation of the Gifts
Response: Blessed be God for ever.
Sanctus:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Memorial Acclamation:
When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.
Doxology/Amen
