changing behaviors with employee health
DESCRIPTION
In the health management industry, we know engagement is critical in helping individuals achieve and maintain healthy behaviors, as well as reducing the incidence of chronic disease and improve population health. To find answers to the engagement conundrum, we dug into academic behavioral psychology and consumer economics research, and learned that some approaches were effective for motivating new, healthy behaviors, while other models were better at helping individuals give up unhealthy ones. From this research, we launched a new approach to behavior change that can lead to long-term change for more people. Here is a quick overview of Persona™, HealthFitness’ proprietary behavior change approach.TRANSCRIPT

When worksite health management programs focus only on ONE APPROACH to behavior change,
they can MISS important segments of the population.

With Persona, the approach used with each of these segments is different.
For example, the Persona model uses COGNITIVE approaches.
MOTIVATION.
Through cognitive approaches, such as the Transtheoretical Model and motivational interviewing,we influence a participant’s
(this is HARD).
This process involves changing participant thinking, behaviors and values to inspire enough intrinsic motivation so they stop doing something they really like to do
Cognitive approaches can
work well with helping
participants ELIMINATE existing unhealthy
behaviors such as smoking
or eating unhealthy fats.
With Persona, another approach we use to shape behavior change is called
SMALL STEPS
“”
STEP 1
STEP 2
With the small steps approach, the goal is to influence a participant’s ABILITY to do the behavior by making the new behavior
EASIER TO DO.
“”
Our small steps approach is based on several models, including
BJ Fogg’s behavior design, operant conditioning and behaviorism.
A small steps approach makes
A small steps approach makes

of your population.
And the UNIQUE integration of these different approaches is Persona, HealthFitness’
proprietary behavior change model.
