• People were s)ll moving to the West • New states were s)ll being formed • Soldiers from the North wanted fresh beef (from cows, or ca#le)
• They tasted it when they were in the south and were willing to pay more for fresher beef
• CaHle from the West (TX) sold for $4 a head, but sold for $40 a head in the North!

• How do the laws of supply and demand fit this scenario?
• How do those affect the price of the product (the caHle)?
Solve the Problem
• The caHle were in Texas. People in the North wanted beef. The railroads at that )me went from Kansas to the North. How did the product (caHle) get to the consumers (Northerners)?
