Changing Your Money Story PART 1

1. Determine This: What are the beliefs that form the premise of your current money story?

In essence I want to write down as many beliefs as you can think of that have to do with you and your ability to make or earn money.

Some examples:

• I believe that money is hard for me to earn.

• I believe that I am not smart enough to earn the money that I want to earn.

• I believe that It’s too late for me to earn what I need to earn. I’m too old.

• It’s hard for me to make a living in this economy.

• I’m too new in my business to make a lot of money.

2. Determine This: What do you believe to be true about money? Is it easy to earn? Hard to earn?Reserved only for certain types of people? Is in short supply?

Get deep into understanding your underlying money story and you will see how it drives your thoughts, emotions, behaviors and results. Write down as much as you can about your beliefs and understanding of money- and your underlying story - free f ow!

Some examples:

• People who have a lot of money are lucky.

• Wealth and spirituality are mutually exclusive. You can’t have both.

• People with wealth are different than me.

• Wealthy people lie and cheat to make their money.

Changing Your Money Story PART 1

3. Can you remember what event or who helped you acquire these beliefs/underlying money story?

For example, an original belief around money often follows a grievous disappointment or painful episode that you either witnessed or experienced. A child knowing about his parents’ worries about money or the sudden loss of a job can lead to a belief and a decision to be anxious or cautious about finances.

This guardedness may have beneficial results; for example it may create a healthy motivation to save and prepare for the future, or to carefully examine financial risks.

But it can also lead to irrational and unhealthy money behaviors, such as a vague sense of shame that inhibits any honest discussion of money, or avoiding even the reasonable risks necessary for growth.

Any event that you witnessed or experienced can create a reluctance to charge a fair fee for your services as a way of not vaulting your full worth.

Your genes do not carry your parents or grandparents monetary problems; however, an assumption such as victimhood or being chronically underpaid can become a powerfully organizing storyline and even an aspect of your identity that you will fight tooth and nail for to maintain.

Write down whatever events, situations or experiences ( evidence) you can think of that aided in the formulation of your current money story.

Changing Your Money Story PART 1

4. Next: Look and find any connection between the original formation of your beliefs around you and your current money story and the perspective you now hold and the actions you take…or don’t take.

Acknowledge the impact your assumptions, experiences and beliefs have on your current life. Review the emotional, mental and financial costs and the limits they create on your goals and dreams.

Examine each belief/story/reference while asking yourself, regardless of its origin or past impact, is this serving me now? and also ask yourself this.

If it is not serving you, ask yourself this: Am I ready to release it for good and accept new empowering beliefs and a new story that will serve me?

Realize that you decide what to perceive. You decide what to accept or reject and YOU decide what to create going forward.

You also decide what meaning to attach to what you perceive and you decide what behavior you’ll associate with that meaning.

You can also decide and choose now to change starting today!
