your life means making healthy

choices and practicing healthful

behaviors.

your own health.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL/EMOTIONAL,

AND SOCIAL well being.

It’s important to balance your

physical, mental/emotional, and social health.

Your Health can be looked at as a triangle

with Physical, Mental/Emotional, and Social Health making up the three sides of the Health Triangle.

When a person’s Health Triangle is balanced they have

a high degree of Wellness which is an overall state of well-

being, or total health.

Health & Wellness are dynamic (always changing). Your level of

Health & Wellness can be measured on a Continuum

Healthful behaviors will promote your

wellness.

Heredity, environment, attitude, behavior, media, and

technology can all influence your health.

environment, and other factors affect your health can help

you make healthy decisions.

Of all of the influences on your health the one you have the most control

over is:

Behavior / Attitude

but there are steps you can take to avoid or reduce

these risks.

others.

A type of risk is called cumulative risk. Cumulative risks are related risks that increase in effect with each added risk.

Abstinence can keep you safe from disease, injury and other

health problems.

Abstinence is avoiding harmful behaviors.

Developing proper health habits is very important. These habits, or personal behaviors, related to the way a person lives are called lifestyle factors.

Prevention may be the most important thing you can learn,

and practice, where your health is concerned

Prevention is practicing health and safety habits to remain free of disease and

injury.

Staying healthy takes knowledge,

a plan, and practicing healthful

behaviors.

Individual, family, community, and national health

require planning and responsible behavior on everyone’s part.

A health-literate person knows how

to find and use reliable health information.
