Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Online shopping is a growing area of technology. Establishing a store on the Internet,
allows for retailers to expand their market and reach out to consumers who may not otherwise
visit the physical store. The convenience of online shopping is the main attraction for the
consumers. Unique online payment systems offer easy and safe purchasing from other
individuals. Electronic consumers exhibit different buying behaviors such as; cart abandonment.
The benefits of shopping online also come with potential risks and dangers that consumers must
be aware of. In the future, we can expect online stores to improve their technology tremendously,
allowing for an easier and a more realistic shopping experience.
Shopping on the Internet is more like flicking through a catalogue than heading down to
your local high street. You use your computer to browse through screens showing things you can
buy and once youve chosen what you want, you usually pay by credit or debit card and the
goods get delivered to your home.
With the Internet covering the whole world, the number of online shops is endless. These
days you can buy almost anything online. Most high street shops have Internet sites so instead of
visiting one of their stores you can buy everything from furniture and clothes to CDs and books.
The major supermarkets and chemists have Internet sites too, which means you can pick up most
things you need for your home without ever having to leave it. There are also many Internet
retailers that only sell things online so you can buy goods that your local shops dont stock. You
can buy things like train and plane tickets, holidays, insurance policies and, depending on where
you live, you can even order a pizza online. Its also possible to buy and download music, films

and games straight to your computer and you can upload your digital photos to have them turned
into prints and albums.
Online stores are usually available 24 hours a day, and many consumers have Internet
access both at work and at home. A visit to a conventional retail store requires travel and must
take place during business hours.
Bricks and clicks stores offer the ability to buy online but pick up in a nearby
store. Many stores give the consumer the delivery company's tracking number for their package
when shipped, so they can check its status online and know exactly when it will arrive. For
efficiency reasons, online stores generally do not ship products immediately upon
receiving an order. Orders are only filled during warehouse operating hours, and there may be
a delay of anywhere from a few minutes to a few days to a few weeks before in-stock
i tems are actually packaged and shipped. Many retailers inform customers
how long they can expect to wait before receiving a package, and whether or
not they generally have a fulfillment backlog. A quick response time is sometimes an
important factor in consumers' choice of merchant. A weakness of online shopping is that,
even if a purchase can be made 24 hours a day, the customer must often be at home
during normal business hours to accept the delivery. For many professionals this can be
difficult, and absence at the time of delivery can result in delays, or in some cases,
return of the item to the retailer.

Background of the Study
Like many online auction websites, many websites allow small businesses to create and
maintain online shops (ecommerce online shopping carts), without the complexity that involved
in purchasing and developing an expensive stand alone ecommerce software solutions.
Online shopping is a form ofelectronic commerce whereby consumers directly buy
goods or services from a seller over the Internet without an intermediary service. An online shop,
eshop, e-store, Internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store evokes the
physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks-and-mortar retailer or shopping
centre.
Customers are attracted to online shopping not only because of the high level of
convenience, but also because of the broader selection, competitive pricing, and greater access to
information. Business organizations seek to offer online shopping because it is much lower cost
compared to bricks and mortar stores, offers access to a worldwide market, increases customer
value and builds sustainable capabilities.
Designers of online shops are concerned with the effects of information load - whether
consumers can be given too much information in virtual shopping environments. Information
load is a product of the spatial and temporal arrangements of stimuli in the web store. Compared
with conventional retail shopping, the information environment of virtual shopping is enhanced
by providing additional product information such as comparative products and services as well
as various alternatives and attributes of each alternative, etc.

Statement of the Problem
The purpose of the study is to develop a simple Online Shop. More specifically, this
studies attempt to seek answers to the following specific inquiries:
1. What will be the flow of the Online Shop?
2. What are the programming languages used? Why?
3. What are the advantages of the online shopping for the costumers?
4. What are the risks of online shopping in contrast to the advantages?
Objectives of the Study
The specific objective of this study is to make a simple online shop without any
sophisticated features and stuff. The shop has admin page where the shop admin can create
categories, add products, etc. and the shopper pages (a.k.a. the shop itself) where all the shopping
takes place. Particularly this study is intended to:
1. To know how the online shop work.
2. To know the programming language used.
3. To know how to avoid the risk during online shopping.
Significance of the study
This section will provide brief description on the various significances of the study given
the three categories Educational, Technological and Economic.
To students. The study serves the students as their reference or guide in creating their
program. It will also help students taking computer related courses to identify the best
programming language to use.

To teachers. The study will help teachers to have a deeper understanding to the said
programming languages. By this study they will come up with easier and powerful program.
To future researcher. The study wills benefits and the future researcher as their guide.
The study can also open in development of this study.
Scope and Limitationof the Study
The study only focused on the development of the online shop and it works how it
benefits to the shoppers and it advantages and disadvantages of the online shopping. The study
does security and authenticity of the product offered on line. You understand a product just
through pictures, the seller's products description, this you may can't very comprehensive
understanding of the real products, but now there are many high reputations online. Enter the
website you need before choosing and buy goods, first you have to check the vending company
and the creditworthiness of individuals. In on-line shopping you have a lot of choice and it's save
money and time to a large extent.

METHODOLOGY
The proponent planned thoroughly and carefully to develop a simple yet unique,
convenient, user friendly on-line shop program. We make our design suits our goal, to be make
competitive application with the other online shop in the internet. An adequate solution has been
made to meet the goals of the study.
Planning Phase the proponents will identify the problems that on-line shopping is
encountering. They gather data about online shop by conducting internet
research & reading books.
Analysis Phase the proponents will analyze and understand the problem by reviewing and
studying all the details and information that have been gathered. Then form
some certain questions.
Design Phase the proponents will design what they think is the best solution. Then
development of procedures and designing the GUI and databases of the
program are being constructed.
Development Phase the proponents lays out the final design of the program as well as
determines a more specific set of environmental requirements needed and run
it the internet.
Implementation Phase testing the program in the web and gather feedback from the user and
modify if necessary.

Factors influencing online shopping intention and attitude toward online shopping have
been researched and documented in the context of traditional consumer literature
Online shopping offers the customer a large search space, which can be attractive but
overwhelming. When shopping for a differentiated rather than commodity product the situation
is amplified, because the online shopper considers several relevant dimensions not only price,
but also quality and other attributes. Despite advances in online shopping technology, some
researchers have expressed doubts regarding the viability of online shopping for differentiated
goods. Some argue that the Web is simply too passive and indirect to engage shoppers.
One ambitious solution to online shopping challenges us to develop our simple
application that counters the threats in online shopping research were Internet has transformed
many aspects of life, but perhaps none more so than how we shop for goods and services on line.
While its still nice to stop by a store to touch and see products, the convenience of online
shopping cant be beat. And for some services, such as booking travel or buying concert tickets,
the ability to do so online has made the process much easier and more efficient. One of the great
benefits of online shopping is the ability read others reviews of a product, be they experts or
simply fellow shoppers.
Online reviews and peer recommendations also played a key role for shoppers
researching future purchases of consumer electronics, cars and travel, and 40 percent of online
shoppers indicate they would not even buy electronics without consulting online reviews first.
With the flourishing numbers of online merchants, people nowadays have various choices to do
their shopping. Big companies such as eBay and amazon.com have introduced many value added
features to help the customers to decide what to shop for. With features such as price
comparison, product photos and user reviews, consumers can shop easily and smartly without

even going to the stores and having such a hard time looking for the products they want. All they
have to do are just browse for the product they want in the website and within a few mouse
clicks they are off. Such simplicity of software is what makes online shopping appealing for
consumers.
Theoretical Framework
The following should be followed to be fully understood in developing the system:
1. Writing a program is an integral thing to consider. It is to have a thorough
understanding of the problem and carefully planned approach in solving the
predicament and in documenting a program. In this aspect the system required the
assistance of a program to as PhP and MySQL.
2. The PhP was the language use in its front view of the proposed system; basically PhP
Stands for "Hypertext Preprocessor." (It is a recursive acronym, if you can understand
what that means.) PHP is an HTML-embedded Web scripting language. This means
PHP code can be inserted into the HTML of a Web page. When a PHP page is
accessed, the PHP code is read or "parsed" by the server the page resides on. The
outputs from the PHP functions on the page are typically returned as HTML code,
which can be read by the browser. Because the PHP code is transformed into HTML
before the page is loaded, users cannot view the PHP code on a page. This make PHP
pages secure enough to access databases and other secure information. An MySQL
referred to as the back end of the system, it is where all data are inputted, stored and
retrieved using PhP. The flow of our proposed system is executed by the use of this
software.

The proponents used a user friendly design that can be operated easily. The program
consists of the following:
Categoryproduct categories. The categories will only two level deep, the reason is to
reduce the number of clicks required by a visitor when browsing category.
Productwhere the products name, image and thumbnail, for now the product can only
have one image.
Costitems currently put by the customer
Userthe user or admin account currently all user is an admin and all can do everything
to the shop
Order the shipping and payment information that the customer provided during
checkout is including the shipping cost.
HP and MySQL: The Well-Matched Couple
As noted previously, one of the most important factors driving PHPs popularity over the
last couple of years has been its support for a variety of databases, including MySQL, mSQL,
Oracle and Microsoft Access. By simplifying and streamlining database access, PHP enables
developers to build complex data driven web applications while enjoying short development
cycles.
Support for MySQL has been available in PHP since version 3x and has gradually
improved over subsequently releases. PHP 5.0 promises even better integration with the latest
version of MySQL: the new MySQL extension in PHP 5.0 provides developers with both
function and objectoriented APIs to common MySQL functions, and includes support for new
and upcoming MySQL features like transactions, stored procedures and prepared statements.
