PE TUBE
• PE tube is the abbreviation for “pressure equalizing tube.”
• Small tube surgically placed in a child’s eardrum to assist in drainage of trapped fluid.
• The tube also helps to equalize pressure between the middle ear cavity and the atmosphere.
EENT
• EENT is the abbreviation for eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
BC
• BC is the abbreviation for bone conduction.
• BC is the conduction of sound to the inner ear through the bones of the skull.
• Bone conduction transmission can be used with individuals with normal or impaired hearing.
AU
• AU is the abbreviation for both ears.
OM
• OM is the abbreviation for otitis media.
• Frequently in children.
• Commonly referred to as a middle ear infection.
• Often from an upper repertory infection.
• The fluid in the ear varies from watery to full of pus.
EM
• EM is the abbreviation for emmetropia.
• State of normal vision.
XT
• XT is the abbreviation for exotropia.
• Outward turning of the eye.
• Also called wall-eyed.
OS
• OS is the abbreviation for left eye.
EOM
• EOM is the abbreviation for extraocular movement.
VA
• VA is the abbreviation for visual acuity.
• Measurment of the sharpness of a patient’s vision.
