Chapter 2:Lesson 1&2What are physical and chemical changes?By: Devon
Physical Changes Physical changes are in size, shape, volume, and state of
matter. Sawing wood, shredding paper, and melting wax are all
physical changes. Copper can be hammered into sheets, and gemstones carved into beautiful shapes as a result.
In each case, the substance does not change into something else.
Chemical changes A chemical change occurs when one kind of matter
changes into another type of matter with different properties.
Cooking a potato is one example of a chemical change. So is rusting iron.
It’s not always easy to tell when a chemical reaction occurs. Changes can cause heat, light, sound, and fizzing.

Each object reaches a point where it turns from a solid to a liquid or solid to gas or liquid to gas. That is a melting point. Each melting point is different.
