Development of Culture

• Culture traits are learned or passed down–Family traditions,

customs• Cultures develop as

people learn new culture traits–Immigrants

History and Environment Shape Culture

• Environment–Example: the Sahara desert

affects how people living there earn a living

• History–Example: Spain conquering

parts of south America

Culture Groups

•Shared culture traits = a culture group–Example: teenagers

Culture Regions• In certain culture regions people will

share certain culture traits–Religions, lifestyle, language• Example: Arab world in Africa and

Middle East

• Japan = one dominant culture• Mexico = North and South

are very different• Culture regions are not

contained into one country–Example: Kurdish

Changes in Culture
