CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATONCHAPTER 5:CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION5.1 INTRODUCTIONIn this chapter, a conclusion is made based on the finding in Chapter 4. Then, some recommendations are made for future research. The conclusion is based on the three (3) research objectives. The objectives are to identify the types of infrastructure facilities needed by the residents, to determine the problem that amy arise from infrastructure facilities for low cost housing and to find out ways to improve the quality of the infrastructure facilities of the low cost housing. This conclusion also refers to the literature review and the interview with the respondents of the low cost housing. Finally, some recommendations are provided for future research at the end of this chapter.

5.2 CONCLUSIONThe conclusion is made based on the result of the completed analysis. On the other hand, the analysis is based on the data discovered by researcher. The method used to collect the data is a semi-structure interview in this final project. The respondents involved are the developers who have the experience to develop the low cost housing, whereas the other respondents are the residents who occupied the low cost housing. The residents were categorized into two groups. First, the residents who occupy the low-cost flats and second is the residents who occupy the two-storey terrace houses. The total respondents are ten (10), which include five (5) developers, five (5) residents of the low cost flats and five (5) residents of the two storey terrace houses. A face to face interview was done with the respondents.

5.2.1 Objective 1: To identify the types of needed infrastructure facilities

First of all, the objective is to identify the types of the infrastructure facilities needed by the residents of the low cost housing. Another objective is to identify what types of the facilities provided by the developers to the residents in the low cost housing as well as to find out whether the facilities provided have fulfilled the residents requirement. Based on the findings in Chapter 4, we learned that all the developers interviewed, stated that they have provided all the facilities needed by the residents. Thus, the first objective for the developer is a success based on the interview questions, and the types of the facilities listed. Majority of the facilities listed, have been provided to the residents in the low cost housing. The objective also focuses on the residents of the low cost housing. The survey questions are focused on whether the types of the facilities provided has fulfilled the residents need. The result shows that most of the residents are satisfied with the facilities provided in their their housing areas. The facilities are also easily available. So the objective is achieved based on the types of the facilities provided for the residents. This is clear when the residents feel satisfied with the types of the facilities provided by the developers.

5.2.1 Objective 2: To determine the problem that arise from the infrastructure facilities for low cost housing

The second objective is to determine the problems that arise from the infrastructure facilities in the low cost housing areas. The objective is more focused at the low cost housing. The developer is not involved in this objective. From the results of the interview, the residents have responded that some problems have arised from the infrastructure facilities. The major problem in the low cost housing is the parking area. Most of the low cost housing areas have the same problem. This problem is due to the lack of parking spaces for the residents. Most of the residents park their car far from their house. Some of the residents have to take other initiatives to park their transport; some park their cars on the road sides and others have to settled under big trees nearby. This can cause other problems such as blocking other vehicles and those who park under big trees may get the risk of fallen branches and leaves too. The second objective of the study is achieved based on the responses given by the residents.

Objective 3: To find ways to improve the quality of the infrastructure facilities of the low cost housing

The third objective is also achieved. It is because the maintenance work of the facilities at the low cost housing is available. The developer have performed regular, periodic inspection of the facilities to make sure that the facilities are in good condition. If there should arise any damage or malfunction facilities, the maintenance team will handle them at once. Sometimes the maintenance work will be done monthly. An interesting part here is that the residents also play their role well. They are responsible for the cost of maintenance. Hence, the quality of the infrstructure is always in good hands because both residents and developer work hand-in hand.

5.3 RECOMMENDATIONAs recommendation for future research, the author suggests that it would be helpful to make a study of the role of the government and developer for the development of the low cost housing. The government plays an imortant part in the development of the low cost housing since the low cost housing is one of the government programmes to help the lower income group. On the other hand, the developers are the ones responsible for the building the low cost houses and the infrastructure facilities. It is also recommended that for future study, security services at the low cost housing should be focused. Security service is also one of the infrastructure facilities. However, most of the low cost housing do not have or provide security services. It is one of the important areas which need to be looked upon since it deals with the welfare of the residents. Another recommendation for future research is the maintenance work and the fee or labour-charge for the maintenance work for the infrastructure facilities. Some of the low cost housing residents play their role by paying for the maintenance jobs but as usual, some refuse to pay. Something must be done to create civic awareness among the residents. The author also recommends that parking areas must be in the developers list. They have to make sure that sufficient parking area is provided in housing areas. Perhaps they will still be insufficient areas, but we could reduce the problems.89
