She was so happy to see them!
“We’ll tell you all about it later,” said
Daddy Gabriel, giving Mama Bo a big
kiss. “But quick!” They brushed the mud
from their clothes just as the handle to
Stevie’s room turned.
And they slid down the window frame,
and jumped onto the desk with a little
twirl to prove it!
“It’s you!” said all of the Twitches at
once. Mama Bo, Fig, Daddy Gabriel and
Silver all rushed towards each other,
thudding their feet on the desk, rubbing
noses and giving each other the biggest,
most welcome of hugs.
“However did you do it?” asked Fig
excitedly.
“I knew you would,” said Mama Bo
before anyone could answer. She
rubbed her cheek against Daddy
Gabriel’s, and then against Silver’s too.

Stevie picked up the Twitches’s bag.
She patted it. She tipped it upside
down. She turned it inside out and back
again. She reached inside the bag and
felt a panic as she realized the fourth
Twitch was definitely not there.
Without hesitation, she ran onto the
landing, stood at the top of the stairs
and shouted as loudly as she could,
“Mum! Mum! Come quickly! The daddy Twitch is missing!”
Stevie took the Twitches from
their bag. She placed each rabbit in
the teacup’s saucer garden.
Bo. Silver.
Fig.

This much
he knew: he’d
nodded off on
the journey to
the new house.
Then, he’d woken
up with a bump and
an “Ouch!”
He could only guess they’d
arrived and that he’d
fallen out of the bag
somehow, when Stevie
and her mum had
taken everyone else
inside.
He knew one more thing: he needed to
get to his family, but from his position in
the long grass he really couldn’t see how.
Very close to where he stood, growing
tall and strong, were six sturdy-looking
toadstools. Gabriel decided to climb onto
the shortest one to get a better look at
his surroundings.
