“Extraction and Immediate Implant Placement: Single Tooth to Full Mouth Reconstruction”

Charles A. Babbush, DDS, MScD

“Missed Diagnosis Using Conventional 2D Radiography”

Dr. Daniel McEowen

Time: 8:30am - 12:30pm.......... Tuition - $295.00 - Credit Hours: 4 CEU

Time: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.......... Tuition - $99.00 - Credit Hours: 4 CEU

Extraction and immediate implant placement has become one of the hottest topics in implant dentistry. The workshop will feature this concept ranging from single tooth to full mouth reconstruction. The latest implant design, NobelActive, will be used to demonstrate these techniques as used in over 2500 implants. Guidelines and protocol developed over the last 20 years for immediate implant placement will be presented. A large series of cases will be used to demonstrate this concept in a step-by-step fashion from diagnosis, to surgery, to prosthetic reconstruction and follow-up. A series of statistics will also be presented to document the efficacy of extraction and immediate implant placement; which will include the All-On-Four procedure.

The availability of 3D CBCT systems has increased the accuracy of our diagnosis over the use of other forms of 2D radiography including digital periapicals and panoramics. The inherent distortions and limitations of these types of 2D radiographs make it much more difficult to complete an accurate diagnosis of the case. Some of these limitations include: elongation and foreshortening of the target tissues, overlap of structures either in front of or behind the target tissues, tissue density that is not easily interpreted in bone or soft tissues and the inherent differences in resolution in many types of film and digital receptors.
